Adopt a Golden Atlanta

Adopt a Golden Atlanta AGA, a 501(c)3 golden retriever rescue dedicated solely to Golden Retrievers, 100% run by volunteers.

We do not reject any golden, no matter their medical or behavioral needs and work tirelessly to find their "furever family". We find warm, loving forever homes for Golden Retrievers to prevent them from being strays or adding to shelter overpopulation. Regardless of medical needs or age, dogs receive vet care, training if required and safe passage to a forever home.

ADOPTED! Miller’s family was very sad to surrender him but knew it was best for him, and we were grateful to receive that difficult call. He played a little too roughly with the smaller family dog and would get mouthy with the kids. Miller is six months old, loves to play, and is a sweet cuddler. Miller, now Clark, has joined his new family, and his new mom and dad have hearts for rescue, have a great fenced yard, and work from home. The fun part is that Clark has a new brother, Copper, who loves to play. These sweet boys play, snuggle, and do neighborhood watch shifts together. Clark has found his perfect family. Welcome home!

ADOPTED! Longtime AGA supporters recently had to say goodbye to their beloved dog Winston. While they had a big hole in their hearts and their home, they were willing to wait for the perfect dog - they knew they couldn't replace Winston but they knew their hearts were big enough to welcome another dog to their home. As it happens, sometimes - it didn't take long. When they met Sunny, it was love at first sight for everyone. She was the perfect fit for their family. The only question was whether their "grand-dog" would agree. When they were able to meet, it was big "woofs" all the way around and Sunny was home. Sunny is living a great life. She loves to take long walks around the neighborhood and has now met all the neighbors and their dogs. She loves playing with all her new toys, and sitting in the window seat watching the birds and squirrels in her backyard. She's also enjoying play dates and is getting some training to help her be her best self. Yay Sunny! Thanks to everyone who helped with this love match.

ADOPTED! Cotton came to AGA because her owner was ill and could no longer take care of her. She had a wonderful foster of almost 2 years, who took care of her until we could officially welcome Cotton to Adopt a Golden. At 10 years old, she is an alpha dog who loves people. Her new family met her at Meet and Match and knew immediately they wanted to adopt her. They have had many dogs and were looking for a new companion. Cotton is keeping her name and has been enjoying long walks in the morning and shorter walks throughout the day. Her new mom and dad love her energy, sweet nature and are very pleased to have adopted this happy girl. Special thanks to her foster mother and all who helped her find her home.

ADOPTED! Bingley, 9, was dropped off at a boarding facility 2 1/2 years ago when her owner suffered ill health. Sadly, for the past 2 1/2 years, Bingley lived in a concrete pen with some outside time mixed in. Bingley came to her foster as a very happy, resilient golden retriever. A previous adopter was looking for a companion, and Bingley (now Biscuit) was just who she was looking for. Biscuit has lots of toys and a private yard and enjoys her walks. Her new mom says he is a good girl and she is working on the counter/trash can surfing. Biscuit sleeps directly beside her mom on the floor; she's such a lucky girl. Thanks to all who helped her find a fantastic, furever home.

ADOPTED! AGA came across Sam when he was listed on Craigslist for rehoming. In his short time with his family, he had shown a tendency to play a little too roughly with the resident dogs, and they felt he’d do better as an only dog. We quickly stepped in, and as he enjoyed his car ride to his new foster home, little did he know a whole new chapter was about to begin.
Sam attended the Meet & Greet, had a few meetings, and even more phone calls with prospective adopters, but the perfect match just hadn’t come along. Not that Sam minded, he was far too busy enjoying the good life: lounging on the bed, tagging along to local restaurants, exploring the fenced backyard, and making friends with all the neighbors on his daily walks.
Over time, an AGA volunteer, foster, and previous adopter, realized something important: the home they’d been searching for was already his. Sam was exactly where he was meant to be. Now, he’s the center of attention, just the way he likes it, and is loving all the new adventures (and toys). Welcome home, Sam!

𝗨𝗥𝗚𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗙𝗢𝗦𝗧𝗘𝗥𝗦 𝗡𝗘𝗘𝗗𝗘𝗗! 🚨 WE NEED FOSTERS WITH NO OTHER PETS! Golden Retrievers need 𝗬𝗢𝗨! We’re in desperate need of 𝗻𝗼 𝗱𝗼𝗴 (or pet) 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 so we can save more goldens. We require all orphans that come from shelters to have 7-day quarantine period to ensure they did not pick up anything contagious to other animals, like kennel cough.

WHY NO PET FOSTERS? We have dogs that come from shelters or other rough conditions that REQUIRE a 7 day isolation period from other pets to ensure they did not pick up any germs from where they were, like kennel cough, which is contagious to animals. We need more no pets foster homes so we can rescue more goldens in shelters and rough situations when they require an isolation period.

Can you open your heart and home to help Goldens in need? These sweet pups are counting on us—and we’re counting on YOU!💛

At 13 years old, Jessie thought she’d spend her golden years surrounded by love and familiarity. But when her owner passed away, her whole world shattered. She found herself in a noisy shelter, alone and grieving. For a senior dog who had only known one home, the change was overwhelming and heartbreaking.

When the shelter called to see if we could help, we didn’t hesitate. Within 24 hours, Jessie was in AGA’s care - safe, loved, and starting her new chapter. Jessie is gentle, sweet, and good with other dogs. But her medical exam revealed something urgent: severe glaucoma in her left eye. It was causing constant pain, bulging, and complete vision loss.

To give Jessie the comfort she deserves, we made the decision to remove her eye - a costly surgery, but one that will ensure she spends her remaining years pain-free 𝗪𝗲 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗵𝗮𝗽𝗽𝘆 𝘁𝗼 𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗝𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿-𝘁𝗼-𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲!

• Continued post-op veterinary care and medications • Emergency rescue & a safe place to land, immediate shelter and safety for a golden in crisis • Life-saving veterinary care & essential vaccines, treating injuries, illnesses, and preventing future disease • Spay/neuter surgeries, stopping the cycle of unwanted litters, and ensuring a healthier life ahead •

Because every golden, no matter their age, deserves love and dignity. Thank you for helping us give Jessie not just more time, but a better life. 𝗗𝗼𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗿𝗮𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗿 𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲: https://adoptagoldenatlanta.com/save-more-goldens/

ADOPTED! Have you ever gone into a meeting and realized there was more than one person with your name? It happens and we just have to roll with it. It also happened recently at AGA. We ended up with two beautiful girls, both named Sunny. We like to keep their names if possible - there are enough changes in their lives without a foster having to teach a dog a new name. This time we had two Sunny's and this sweet girl became Sunny2 to our internal organization.

Sunny2 was a sweet, happy girl and we knew we needed a special home for her, preferably one with another dog and some kids. When her new family saw her on our website, they immediately reached out to meet her. Of course, the family lab "Cooper" also had to agree to a new friend so a meeting was set up. Cooper was a little hesitant at first - "who is this stranger and why are my people so excited to meet her?" He quickly realized that there was plenty of love to go around and he might be getting a new sister to play with which would be very cool.

Her new family is so happy to have her. She's settling in and showing off her personality. She gets along great with Cooper. They love to chase the ball together and play tug-of-war with their toys. She follows him around and he is showing her the ropes. She watches what he does for her cues and just loves her new brother.

Sunny likes to watch squirrels out of the kitchen window. She’s a big fan of a peanut butter Kong and her food puzzle. She also loves a good belly rub!

Thanks to everyone who helped this sweet girl find her perfect family and her new brother Cooper.

ADOPTED! When a shelter reached out to AGA about four Golden Retriever puppies who had been surrendered after their breeder fell on hard times, we didn’t hesitate to help. The shelter was at capacity and needed support placing these sweet pups, and we were more than happy to welcome them into the AGA family.
One of those pups, Baylor, a 5-month-old Golden, was a little shy at first as he adjusted to life in a new environment. But it didn’t take long for him to discover that people meant plenty of pets and affection. His foster also noticed that Baylor had quite the nose, always sniffing out squirrels and tracking scents around the yard.
At our Meet & Match event, Baylor was a total standout. His gentle demeanor and wagging tail quickly captured the attention of a longtime volunteer who had been patiently waiting for the right companion to join her on her many adventures.
Now living his best life, Baylor is soaking up all the attention and loving every minute of it. From holding court at the local winery to tagging along to the hardware store, he's quickly become Mom’s loyal sidekick. On her 40-acre property, he has plenty of space to roam, explore, and make new friends, including her cats and a few curious chickens. His new mom hopes to channel his natural instincts and eventually introduce him to scent training. From timid beginnings to tail-wagging adventures, Baylor’s story is just getting started. Welcome home!

𝗔𝗗𝗢𝗣𝗧𝗔𝗕𝗟𝗘: Sometimes, life gives you unexpected turns, but they lead you right where you belong. Meet Aspen 2, our quiet, sweet soul who spent seven years as a breeding mama and now she is retired with AGA. 🩵☀️

She may be shy and still learning the ropes of what being a dog is all about, but that doesn’t stop her. She loves other dogs, gentle pets, and dreams of a home with a secure yard and a furry best friend to guide her. She is good with cats and would do best in a home with older kids or no kids, as she is still a little timid.

Here’s the best part: a generous donor has already covered her heartworm treatment costs with a $1,000 gift. She is looking for a 𝗳𝗼𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿-𝘁𝗼-𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁 𝗵𝗼𝗺𝗲 to be with her every step of the way while she gets her treatment. And once complete, the adoption will be official!

This girl is soft in heart, soul, and coat, just waiting for her happily-ever-after. Could that be with you? Read more about Aspen 2 here: https://adoptagoldenatlanta.com/goldens/aspen-two/

When Sid arrived at Adopt a Golden Atlanta, he had a timid heart. He didn’t know how to be around people, walk on a leash, or even be inside a home. Being near humans was so overwhelming that he would simply lie down on the ground, unsure what to do.

On top of that, Sid was battling burnt paw pads, severe dental disease that required pulling four teeth, an enlarged prostate, double ear infections (one with a ruptured eardrum), and more. His body and spirit had been through so much. But you are helping change his story. 💛 Because of donors like you, Sid now knows the comfort of soft beds, gentle hands, and warm meals. His tail wags a little faster each day as he learns that people can be trusted.
