Through our Therapeutic Program, we serve individuals with a broad range of physical, cognitive and emotional abilities and all socioeconomic backgrounds. Through our School and Boarder Programs, we provide opportunities for beginner, intermediate and advanced riders to excel in the sport of horsemanship.

The Equine Specialist in Mental Health and Learning workshop is a three-day workshop which provides specialized training for equestrians who are interested in equine-facilitated mental health and/or equine-assisted learning programs. This workshop is not designed to train educators or mental health professionals how to perform their role in equine-facilitated psychotherapy or equine-assisted learning sessions.

We will be hosting an information session about the June workshop tomorrow, April 4th at 3PM via zoom. We will also be able to send a recording of the info session if you cannot attend tomorrow at 3PM. A zoom link is available for those that cannot attend in person but would like to learn more about the June ESMHL workshop. Please contact [email protected] for zoom link or recording.

Our Lesson Program is looking for a riding instructor to teach Monday and Wednesday evenings starting in April. The ideal candidate has experience teaching Hunter Jumper lessons from the beginner through at least X-rails. There would also be opportunity to substitute for other instructors if interested.

Chastain Horse Park is seeking a passionate and experienced Certified Therapeutic Riding Instructor (CTRI) to join our dynamic team as a Lead Instructor and assist us in developing future PATH professionals.

This is an incredible opportunity to be part of our team. Chastain Horse Park has been providing equine-assisted therapeutic programming for over 20 years in Atlanta, Georgia. Our newly completed construction of an 18,000 sq. ft. Therapeutic Horsemanship Center and new arenas provides the infrastructure for expanding our services and becoming a "center of excellence".

Born in 2008, Eden, was diagnosed with a neurodegenerative disease called Mucolipidosis Type IV (ML4). Despite the challenging prognosis associated with ML4, Eden shines with a great sense of humor, a terrific smile, and a playful spirit. She loves to tease her therapist about a volunteer who has moved away, chat about food, and inquire about everyone's dinner plans.

Eden began participating in hippotherapy at Chastain Horse Park 10+ years ago at the age of 6 and in 2016 began working with Michelle Winer, PT, MSPT, HPCS. Incorporating hippotherapy into a physical therapy session serves as a powerful tool for the facilitation of the key neuromotor systems that support function. Equine movement, under the direction of a skilled therapist, offers the patient the opportunity for complex motor learning. Hippotherapy is combined with other standard therapy tools and strategies in an intervention plan designed to address the treatment needs of the client.

Michelle Winer, PT, MSPT, HPCS has pioneered the use of electrical stimulation along with hippotherapy and incorporates e-stim into her sessions with Eden. By placing electrodes on the skin over specific muscles the physical therapist can recruit the appropriate muscle at the correct time for movement. Contracting the muscles via electrical stimulation helps strengthen the affected muscle and teach correct movement patterns for improved motor learning.

At Chastain Horse Park, Michelle’s innovative strategies empower each client to build strength, enhance fine and gross motor skills, and achieve their unique goals. While our individual objectives may differ, our shared commitment to progress and success remains unwavering.
