MRHS works with the City of Athens to provide loving care for homeless animals from McMinn County. The MRHS Spay & Neuter Clinic and Larry Dean Wallace Sr. Adoption Center are both located at 320 S. Jackson St., Athens, TN. We share a facility with the City of Athens Animal Shelter, and are invited to be there to help socialize, transport, foster, and adopt out animals. You’ll adopt from us at thi

s location unless told otherwise! You can reach our team at the Adoption Center at 423-744-9548. MRHS does not intake or reclaim any cats or dogs at the shelter. We rely heavily on volunteers working with a small staff to save lives. Appointments for spay/neuter can be made by contacting the Spay & Neuter Clinic at 423-649-0370. Fill out a volunteer or adoption application at www.mrhumane.org! We'd love to have you join our volunteer team! Donations can be mailed to us at 320 S. Jackson St., Athens, TN 37303. Monetary support from our animal loving friends in the community as well as donations of supplies are very much appreciated! Every donation directly helps over 2,000 animals a year that MRHS helps to care for!

Are you looking for a cat who will definitely not love you?

Excellent. Because our shelter has barn cats who have zero interest in being lap warmers or Netflix buddies. What they do want is a nice barn, stable, or outbuilding where they can patrol the property, nap in sunbeams, and silently judge you from a distance.

Their demands are simple:
• You provide food, fresh water, and shelter.
• If they ever feel unwell, you’ll make sure they get help.
• You accept that they will never, ever say thank you.

What will you get in return?
• World-class rodent control (they work cheaper than any exterminator).
• Professional glaring, hissing, and general cattitude.
• Occasional “presents” left on your doorstep (spoiler: it’s not flowers).
• The smug satisfaction of knowing your barn is protected by elite feline security.

If you’ve got a barn, farmyard, or stable that could use a hardworking, no-nonsense mouser who will never love you—but will happily live rent-free while keeping the rodents away—get in touch with us today.

We can do this folks! We can save Bellatrix, Angel, Diamond, Scott, Lady, Lucy, Rileigh, and Oreo. We have volunteers here at the shelter today from 10-3 and tomorrow from 12-4. Come by. Meet The Great Eight and the rest of our adoptable dogs. We’re ready.

🕸️ If you’re coming in, particularly for a dog adoption, help us out and fill out a pre-adoption application online: mrhumane.org

🐶 If you have dogs, bring them with you for a meet and greet with whoever you decide to adopt. Dogs get to have opinions about their roomies too!

🐈‍⬛ If you want cats and kittens, bring a carrier. Yes adoption fees are discounted, but we still gotta charge you $10 for those cardboard carriers. Bring your own!

💰 Bring cash! We try really hard to process cards on the weekends, but the tech gremlins love making life hard, especially when they know our staff credit card machine guru is spending time with her family.

❤️ And yes, any open kennel helps us buy more time for The Great Eight. So if you’re looking for an older dog like Emmie, a super smart dog like Croissant, a goofball like Betty, or a sweet puppy like Coco or Lil Bit, that is fine too. Come on down and spend your weekend saving the life of a rescue dog or cat.
