Meet Rusty! This one-year old, 36-lb cutie came to Buddy after being found as a stray with his Mom and sister downstate.. When Rusty first arrived, he was quite timid and unsure. He required a lot of coaxing and some incentive in the form of treats to feel comfortable coming in and out of the shelter. With patience and routine, Rusty has made tremendous progress. He now, "knows he's a dog" and carries himself with confidence and is eager to explore, play and make new friends with people and other dogs.
Rusty is one of many dogs that we pull from downstate animal control facilities who are at risk of being euthanized due to overcrowding. Sadly, up to 6,000,000 animals are euthanized every year due to overcrowding in animal control shelters. Our goal is to reduce that number as much as we can every year. As of today we have saved almost 15,000 animals and so far we’ve done over 300 adoptions this year.
