Electronic Detection K9s Assist in Child Exploitation Arrest

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives arrested an Antioch man for possessing numerous images and videos of child po*******hy, many involving children under the age of 13.

Lake County Sheriff’s Detectives received a tip from an email provider indicating a device in Lake County emailed suspected child po*******hy. Sheriff’s detectives began an investigation and based on their investigation determined the likely source was coming from a home in the 1000 block of Deertrail Court, Antioch.

Sheriff’s detectives obtained a search warrant for the residence and conducted that search warrant with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office on January 8, 2026. Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office Electronic Detection K9 Grip and Sheriff’s Electronic Detection K9 Enzo assisted with the search. During their search, detectives seized electronics that contained dozens of child po*******hy images and videos of children under the age of 13, belonging to David J. Ransdell, 72, of the same residence.

After reviewing the facts and circumstances of the investigation, the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office approved five counts of possessing child po*******hy against Ransdell (one Class X Felony, four Class 2 Felonies). Additional charges are possible.

Sheriff John D. Idleburg said, “There is zero tolerance for those who exploit children, whether online or in person. Our Cyber Crimes Team will continue to be relentless in their efforts to identify predators who hide behind electronics. This investigation demonstrates the strength of our collaboration with the Illinois Attorney General’s Office and the Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office in our joint quest to keep our community’s children safe.”

Ransdell remains in the Lake County Jail pending an initial court hearing this morning. The Lake County State’s Attorney’s Office intends to file a petition to detain Ransdell in custody while awaiting trial.

All defendants are presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.

WHAT DOES IT MEAN TO HAVE A SPOT?

In animal welfare, a SPOT is everything.

A spot is not just a kennel or a foster home.
A spot is capacity, time, resources, and life itself.

When people say “just save one more,” what they’re really asking is:
Where does that dog’s SPOT come from?

Every dog occupies a SPOT somewhere. When one SPOT is full, pressure moves down the line.

SPOTS exist everywhere — in homes, fosters, rescues, shelters, on the street, in low-cost clinics, and with animal control. There is no unlimited space and no hidden overflow. There is only finite capacity.

Rescues do not turn dogs away because they do not care. Shelters do not euthanize because they want to. Dogs are dying because there are no SPOTS left.

When fosters are full, rescues stop intake.
When rescues are full, shelters overflow.
When shelters overflow, dogs are displaced or euthanized.

This is not failure — it is math.

SPOT stands for:

Space — physical room in homes, rescues, and shelters
People — adopters, fosters, volunteers, donors
Operations — funding, vet care, spay and neuter
Time — time to heal and find the right home

When time runs out, SPOTS disappear.

Adopting does not just save one dog. It opens a SPOT in a rescue, which opens a SPOT in a shelter, which saves the next dog waiting behind them.
