Please consider being a valued volunteer team member. Sandra Sue Benson Animal Adoption Center is up and running. Our cat rooms are full with many cats and kittens waiting for their furever homes. SPCA San Pat County has built and maintains an animal adoption center that is serving the needs of San Patrico County. It was created to provide the community a facility where people can adopt a homeles

s pet and where animals can be housed in a humane manner while awaiting a loving home. Our work as just begun with the opening of the animal adoption building named for Sandra Sue Benson, who was a loving and generous benefactor. Our original building is named in her honor. Thanks to Sandra Sue Benson we were able to purchase land to grow our mission for years to come. Our first director of the adoption center, Dona Farrar, was a strong proponent of “fixing” your pet before they reproduced. She was a driving force in educating the public as to this need as well as enforcing it in the plan to insure animals adopted from the SPCA San Pat County were spayed and neutered. We believe in working hard to educate the public about the need to spay or neuter their pets, and we require it of each adopter. All animals that are adopted need to be spayed or neutered by six weeks of age or before they leave our facility. This part of Texas has euthanized too many animals, and we believe it is far too common. Additionally, the number of animals that roam our county, homeless and hungry, often dumped, and in poor health surpasses by far other parts of the USA. We have honored Dona’s legacy by naming the second building the Dona Farrar Intake Facility. We hope you will consider donating to our agenda with volunteering, donating food, collars and leashes, or making a monetary contribution to our mission to improve the lives of animals who could be loving pets in San Patricio County. Sandra Sue Benson and Dona Farrar believed in our mission. Can you get on board as well?

🎉🐾 TWO HUGE ADOPTION SUCCESS STORIES TO CELEBRATE! 🐾🎉

There are days in animal rescue that make every heartbreak, every late night, every setback, and every challenge worth it. This past week gave us not one, but TWO incredible happy endings.

❤️ First up: Annie!

Last week, our sweet Annie finally found her forever home.

Annie was incredibly special to all of us here at the shelter. She has an autoimmune disorder and, because of her special needs, she was overlooked for years. We watched families come and go while Annie patiently waited for someone to see what we already knew—that she was absolutely amazing.

And then it happened.

The perfect person came along… and the best part? They were looking specifically for a dog just like Annie. It was meant to be.

While our tears are definitely bittersweet, this is exactly what we dream of for every animal in our care. Annie is headed into a home where she is loved, wanted, understood, and cherished.

Congratulations, sweet Annie girl. Go live your BEST life. We will miss your precious face more than words can say. ❤️

🌸 And then there’s Princess…

Princess’s story is truly one for the books.

She arrived at our shelter after being dumped with her six puppies. Terrified and confused, she ran. Thanks to the incredible help of our city’s Animal Control team, Princess was safely brought back so she could care for her babies.

The trauma she experienced left deep scars. For a while, Princess struggled with fear and trust, and at times that fear came out as aggression. There were moments when we worried she might never find a family willing to give her a chance.

But Princess had other plans.

As she slowly learned she was safe, the real Princess began to shine through. Beneath all that fear was one of the sweetest, most loving girls you could ever meet. She proved every doubt wrong and completely stole our hearts.

And now she has a forever family of her own.

Congratulations, Princess. Your days of surviving are over. It’s time to be spoiled, loved, and treasured exactly the way you deserve. ❤️

These stories are why we never give up.

At one point, Annie and Princess likely thought the shelter was their forever home. It’s all they knew. Until one day, it wasn’t.

There are still so many dogs and cats here waiting for that same miracle.

If you’ve ever considered adopting or fostering, now is the time. Every adoption opens a space that allows us to continue pulling animals from Animal Control, saving lives, and giving more animals a second chance.

To our community: thank you. Thank you for supporting us, volunteering, donating, fostering, sharing posts, and believing in our mission. Because of you, stories like Annie’s and Princess’s are possible.

Together, we’re changing lives—one adoption at a time. 🐾❤️

✨🐾 WOW… What a PAW-sITIVELY AMAZING Spa Day! 🐾✨

Just look at these spoiled babies! 💙🐶

Yesterday’s Spa Day fundraiser was an incredible success, and we are feeling so grateful for the overwhelming support from our community. From happy tails and puppy smiles to fresh bandanas and lots of pampering, it was a day filled with love, laughter, and some very well-deserved TLC for our furry friends.

Every dollar raised goes right back into helping us provide the very best care for the animals in our shelter. Whether you brought your pet for a spa treatment, made a donation, volunteered, or simply helped spread the word, YOU made a difference.

A very special thank you goes out to Animal Hospital of Padre Island for their generosity, compassion, and willingness to donate their time and professional services. We couldn’t have done this without your support, and we are so thankful for your partnership in helping animals throughout our community. 💙🐾

One thing became very clear yesterday—you all want more Spa Days! 😍 We heard you loud and clear, and we’re already talking about bringing them back more often.

To everyone who showed up and showed out for our shelter: thank you. Seeing all of these sweet faces, happy pups, and supportive pet owners reminded us just how incredible this community truly is.

Until next time… stay tuned, because the spa may be opening its doors again sooner than you think! 🛁✨🐶
