Doggieology101 is all about teaching people how to communicate effectively with their dog! As a pack animal, a dog’s DNA requires that someone be the leader.

Does your dog jump on people, pull on the leash, have little to no impulse control and need to learn some manners?? As your K9 coach, I would come to your home and teach you simple effective techniques that will show you how to command the calm state of mind and show your dog that you are their pack leader. People often unknowingly give their dog mixed or confusing signals about who runs the pack.

If they are confused about this in any way, they often will step up and assume the leadership position. This confusion creates anxiety and stress in the dog and can lead to pushy, challenging or destructive behavior. They respond best to a strong leader who creates the rules, boundaries and limitations and who commands a calm state of mind. A huge part of our program is getting dogs out in the world to teach them how to be chill and relaxed around other people, dogs, moving carts, machines and whatever else is in the environment. We do NOT allow the dogs to meet people or dogs during these field trips. We want the dog’s focus to be on us and the guidance we’re providing.

Why, you may ask? Being social (in my humble opinion) means that a dog can be out in any environment and any distraction and remain calm. This means they need to pattern calmness in those situations. If you bring a puppy out in public and everyone gets all excited and squealy and the puppy gets wiggly, jumpy or over excited/aroused, you’ve just started teaching your pup how you WANT them to approach/respond/greet people. And let’s be honest, it’s only cute till it isn’t.

We condition the brain for calmness, using the dog’s psychology to teach the dog. Leadership first, then commands. ❤️🐶

A couple of our newest Stay-n-Train dogs working on duration work. Duration work is an underused but highly effective way to work on calming down the over excited, over aroused, anxious, worried (any higher state of mind) brain. Our approach teaches not only the dog but we focus heavily on teaching the human how to get the behaviors they’re seeking and a harmonious home.
