Yes, this is a mat… not a cat! 😳

This was one of the mats we removed during a sedated shave down last week.

For cats, severe matting can be more than just a grooming issue. Mats can pull on the skin, restrict movement, trap moisture, and become very uncomfortable.

We know how challenging it can be to brush your cat (especially if they do not like it), but regular brushing and routine grooming can go a long way in preventing mats before they become a problem.

In this case, the cat lost almost a pound after all the matting was removed. 😱

The good news is this kitty is feeling much more comfortable. 💙

🚨HEAT ADVISORY TOMORROW🚨

Your dog cannot tell you they are overheating!

With hot, humid weather in the forecast, it is important to remember that pets can overheat MUCH QUICKER than people. Dogs and cats do not sweat the way we do and rely primarily on panting to cool themselves down. When humidity is high, panting becomes less effective, making it harder for pets to regulate their body temperature and increasing their risk of heat exhaustion and heat stroke. 🥵

During periods of extreme heat, make sure your pet always has access to fresh water and a cool, shaded area. Limit outdoor activity to cooler parts of the day (such as morning or late evening) and avoid strenuous exercise.

Signs of heat stroke can include excessive panting, drooling, weakness, vomiting, bright red gums, disorientation, or collapse. If you notice any of these symptoms, move your pet to a cool area immediately, offer cool (not ice-cold) water, and seek veterinary care right away. Heat stroke is a medical emergency and can become life-threatening in a matter of minutes!

There are truly no words to express how much we adore Sawyer!

He was not feeling well for a week or so and ended up needing surgery. We are happy to report that his procedure went very well. We are sending him LOTS of well wishes for a smooth and speedy recovery. 💙
