A beautiful sunny care day with the big kids! MO Trimming worked her magic to balance our drafts big toes. ✨ Our volunteers swooped in afterwards and made sure the horses got some 1:1 time grooming and red light therapy sessions. ♥️🙏

HORSE STORIES 🐴💕 Next up, meet Buster. ♥️

Buster is our "short" and stocking Belgian Draft gelding who just quietly settles right into your heart.

Before coming to us, Buster spent most of his life working in the fields and pulling heavy loads in a harness too small.. His body carries a lot of old scars along his back, neck, and face.. you can tell he has been a horse who gave a lot of himself over the years.

After that, he was bought to carry knights at jousting events during the renaissance fair, which does sound pretty awesome in theory! 😄 But it turns out Buster was just not a fan of the shiny, clanking armor. So the kind knights realized this and sought out a quieter home that can still keep him occupied for his health.

That's when we found him! Buster came to be Niall's personal companion, the two of them just seem to understand each other. 💕 Niall works with him regularly, helping him through stretches and simple exercises to support his body after so many years of hard work. And Buster, in his quiet Buster way, soaks up every bit of that patience and care!

On his page, we call him a “cautious cuddler,” and that really is the perfect way to describe him. 😂 He likes to take his time, go slow, and figure people out on his own terms. He keeps his curiosity a little guarded due to his past life, but he is one of the sweetest, gentlest boys you could ever hope to know.

It breaks our hearts to share that sweet Bhalla gained his wings. 💔

Bhalla had an accident while attempting to go under a fence.. When he realized he couldn't make it, backed up quickly and immediately began hunching and limping.. something was very wrong. 😢

While we were working with our vet and bodywork specialists to understand exactly what had happened and how to care for it, he lost his balance later and fell.. After that, he was unable to stand again, despite every effort made for him. Believe us.. we tried..

At that point, the kindest choice we could make was to help him rest and end his suffering.

Bhalla was one of the very first horses at Rise & Ride Ranch, and honestly, he was one of the best. He was our unofficial unicorn, party pony, treat muncher.. he made it feel like home. I would dare say Bhalla was the most HUGGED horse on this property. Every kid (and adult) around him would just feel the urge to hug cause that is who he was.

Over the years, Bhalla became the horse people remembered.. he reminded all of us that a good horse does not have be flashy or to do anything big to leave a big mark. He gave this family, this ranch, and so many of our guests some of the gentlest memories we have.

Thank you, sweet boy, for everything you gave us. We are so thankful we got to love you, and we will miss you more than words can really hold. 🐴♥️🪽
