Red Gate Horse Show saw lots of growth and happy firsts. Fiona and Rocketman conquered leading and pattern ride. Holland did her first-ever horse show on Sinbad and was super focused..and placed 3rd. Ella and 4-yr-old Annings Doll Face were champs in Preshort with lovely transitions Ruby and Sinbad had excellent jump courses in SS Eq and Hunters with good ribbons. Pippa and Rocketman put all the pieces together and were Reserve Champs in SS Eq plus Champion in SSHunters. In the big ring, Maeve and Kate are finding there stride with a 2nd o/f in the Limit among their solid awards. Bentley and Christine did their first show together and Bentley had a ball! Ready to head to the next show. And Irelyn and Play Date jumped two fabulous courses in Pony Hunters with a 2nd and 4th. It was a long day but so great to hang with our barn family and horse show friends.

Young Pony Championships did not disappoint. It’s like being a kid on a candy shop… beautiful ponies everywhere. Stunning movers. All colors, shapes and sizes. And a supportive environment for young ponies just starting to spread their wings. Annings Doll Face (4yr), Rocketman (4 yr) and Always On My Mind(5yr) all handled the overnight adventure like pros. Pippa nailed every canter transition. Irelyn piloted Dolly in the large 5&under division like a pro. Maeve and Kathryn improved with each round. And these girls did an amazing job taking care of their ponies themselves. It was such a fun weekend with the best team. I’ve attended this show three years and I can’t say enough what a great opportunity it is. Greenies are allowed to be greenies.

Just about exactly 40 years ago, I answered an ad in the Washington Post looking for a small adult to train ponies. I was blessed to spend the next 20-25 years working at Longacre Farm breaking and training a long list of talented and personable ponies. I now find myself with a small personal program of riders, many with young ponies. Now in my 60’s and I ride every day, but there are only so many hours. I’m looking to see if there is a local rider who is interested in riding green ponies, and learning how to train them. This is a non-paid working student type arrangement. A few days a week, free riding (and instruction) opportunities for the right candidate. Must have your own transportation. Please pm me if interested with video and background. Thanks. Carol

Thank you Morven Park for hosting two lovely hunter shows this weekend ..and Erin Gilmore Photography for some stellar moments captured. We have a lot of new partherships in the barn and was wonderful to get out there and try spreading our wings. On Friday before the show, Ella struggled to get her young pony Annings Doll Face to even trot. On Saturday at Ella’s first ever show, she got all her transitions in PreShort ..crop in hand. Sunday no crop needed, just like butter. Irelyn has taken over Riverside from Jill and was 4th in Eq on the flat and solid ribbons in pleasure. We know Jill was so proud to see her pride and joy mare, stunning and fabulous with elegant Irelyn in the irons. Irelyn also piloted 4 year-old Dolly to a clean sweep in Pony Pleasure. Rosie and Gold Coast were Champions in SS Eq in their first outing together. Ruby and Sinbad were Mini Hunter Champions on Saturday. And proud of Katie and my own boy Wescott KS earning a 4th o/f in the Childrens and winning the hack in good company. Thank you parents ..it’s all because of you!!

HORSE SAVVY VOLUNTEER NEEDED
A local Theraputic riding program is seeking a horse loving individual who wants to spend more time grooming and caring for a small group of hard-work equine therapists. Ohana is located just outside Leesburg and helps families who have suffered trauma, hospice children and others needing emotional support. Our little band of ponies could use some extra TLC to keep them happy, healthy and in the best possible condition. Must be able to drive. Flexible schedule. Two to three visits a week ideal.
