SCAPS is a division of Stanly County Sheriff’s Office. Stanly County Animal Protective Services is open to the public Tuesday - Friday 12-4:30 pm. Owner surrenders are by appointment ONLY. If you have lost or found a pet posting the found pet or looking at our current list of strays on Petco Love Lost site. We partner with them to help get lost and found pets back to their home. Please click the l

For owner surrenders or strays to be turned in please click on the link below and fill out all the information requested. We will email you to schedule as soon as we have space and time to care for your animal’s needs. We can only take in animals from residents of Stanly County. You must show proof of residence in order to surrender an animal. If you need help with a feral cat colony please click on the link below, fill out the form and we will take down your information and get back to you to set up a plan to catch them and bring them in. Please note you will be responsible for trapping and getting the cats to the shelter. We can provide the traps if you need them. A Deputy can be requested by calling dispatch at (704) 986-3700 for welfare checks, bite reports, or dogs running at large. The standard adoption fee for dogs and cats is $100. Adoptions are first come, first serve with an approved application. Adoptions are scheduled by appointment only once an adoption application has been approved. Who loves an underdog? ❤️

Meet Brody, a 4-year-old pittie with the sweetest soul and a story that will pull at your heart. When Brody came to us, he was covered in fleas, missing almost all of his fur, and painfully skinny. Life clearly had not been kind to him, but somehow this boy still greets everyone with nothing but love.

Brody is wonderful with other dogs and has such a gentle, sweet personality. He’s slowly healing and getting the care he deserves, but he still needs some TLC while his skin and coat recover. Some of his fur may never fully grow back — but we think that just makes him even more special. His scars tell the story of a dog who survived and never stopped loving people anyway.

Now all Brody needs is someone willing to see past the rough beginnings and give this deserving boy the forever home he’s always deserved. 🐾

🚨 Don’t tell the other cats… but Bob might secretly be the shelter favorite. 🤫🐾

At around a year old, Bob has perfected the art of being a Stage 5 Clinger. Need personal space? Too bad. Bob believes your lap, your shoulder, and your entire heart belong to him now. ❤️

This sweet boy LOVES people, adores other cats, and is always ready to supervise whatever you’re doing — because clearly no task should ever be done alone. Whether he’s following you around, begging for attention, or curling up beside you, Bob just wants to love and be loved.

So seriously… why do we still have this perfect little velcro cat waiting at the shelter? 🥺

🏁🐾 STAN IS READY FOR RACE DAY! 🐾🏁

Gentlemen… start your engines because this couch hippo is ready to be your co-pilot for every race day! 🏎️💨 Whether you’re watching NASCAR, baseball ⚾, basketball 🏀, football 🏈, or just binge watching your favorite shows, Stan is ready to park himself right beside you on the couch.

Stan is a 2 year old Husky mix with a goofy personality and a heart full of love. ❤️ He would do best as the only dog in the home where he can soak up all the attention for himself.

This handsome boy may look tough in his race suit, but underneath it all he’s just a giant sweetheart ready to trade shelter life for snacks, cuddles, and game day naps.

Stan is heartworm positive but has already started treatment, so he will need a Foster To Adopt home while he finishes getting the care he needs. 🩺🐶

Stan is ready to wave the green flag on his new life — now he just needs someone to bring him home! 🏁

🚨🐱 KITTEN INVASION AT THE SHELTER 🐱🚨

We repeat… this is NOT a drill. The kittens have officially taken over. They are in every kennel, every blanket, every laundry basket, and somehow probably running the front desk at this point.

Tiny meows? Everywhere.
Little paws? Everywhere.
Chaos? ABSOLUTELY everywhere.

We have fluffy kittens, spicy kittens, sleepy kittens, zoomie kittens, and kittens that stare into your soul like they pay taxes. Some want cuddles, some want snacks, and some are committing crimes at full speed at 3am.

At this point we are begging the public… please come adopt these tiny gremlins before they overthrow the shelter staff completely. We are outnumbered. 😭

Adoption fees are $100 and include spay/neuter, vaccines, and a microchip! 🖤🐾

Come pick your favorite little menace and give them a forever home. Your house may never know peace again, but your heart will be full.

🚨🚨 To the person who left a cat in a taped shut box outside our shelter — the cat is now gone. We left a sign explaining that we were away on an emergency, but instead of returning later when staff was here, the cat was abandoned outside alone, terrified, and next to a busy highway. There are also large trucks constantly coming down this road that could have easily run the cat over.

This is exactly why we beg people not to leave animals outside shelters unattended. It is NOT safe. Animals can escape, be stolen, suffer from heat or cold, become injured, or worse. A taped box is not protection. It is dangerous.

Abandoning an animal is also illegal.

We understand people may be struggling or desperate to find help for an animal, but please contact shelters or rescues directly and wait for instructions. Leaving animals outside unattended puts their lives at risk.

Please think before doing this again.
