Stanly County Animal Protective Services Stanly County Animal Protective Services (formerly animal control) is an managed intake, municipal shelter located in Albemarle, North Carolina.

SCAPS is a division of Stanly County Sheriff’s Office. Stanly County Animal Protective Services is open to the public Tuesday - Friday 12-4:30 pm. Owner surrenders are by appointment ONLY. If you have lost or found a pet posting the found pet or looking at our current list of strays on Petco Love Lost site. We partner with them to help get lost and found pets back to their home. For owner surrenders or strays to be turned in please click on the link below and fill out all the information requested. We will email you to schedule as soon as we have space and time to care for your animal’s needs. We can only take in animals from residents of Stanly County. You must show proof of residence in order to surrender an animal. We do not take in owner surrender without an appointment. If you need help with a feral cat colony please click on the link below, fill out the form and we will take down your information and get back to you to set up a plan to catch them and bring them in. Please note you will be responsible for trapping and getting the cats to the shelter. We can provide the traps if you need them. A Deputy can be requested by calling dispatch at (704) 986-3700 for welfare checks, bite reports, or dogs running at large. The standard adoption fee for dogs and cats is $100. Adoptions are first come, first serve with an approved application. Adoptions are scheduled by appointment only once an adoption application has been approved. Are you looking for a little sweetie that will run up to you the first time she meets you and jump in your lap? Or a dog who loves everyone? Well Winnie isn’t your girl. 😂 This dachshund/beagle mix needs a new mom or dad that understands not all dogs want you to be their bff as soon as they meet you. Someone who likes a challenge. Winnie takes a little bit to warm up but once she does she is your bestie for life. She needs a quiet home with no kids and one that doesn’t have a ton of visitors. 🩵💙FOSTER or ADOPTER NEEDED💙🩵

Our sweet Rocky was adopted last week but due to no fault of his own he was returned. The family’s senior dog did not like Rocky and was being mean to him. So they didn’t want Rocky miserable in his own home. Rocky is one of the best dogs at the shelter. He is house and crate trained, great with other dogs, great with small kids, loves water and is the sweetest boy ever! Rocky is also the perfect size at around 35lbs. The Stanly County Sheriff's Office is proud to announce Sheriff Crisco's latest accomplishment!


The North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association Annual Business Conference has concluded! Sheriffs, sheriffs’ personnel, and other state law enforcement and government officials gathered for several days of training classes, panel discussions, and networking opportunities. The North Carolina Sheriffs’ Association Executive Committee also elected new officers during the conference, resulting in four sheriffs being elected to new offices:

President – Sheriff Ricky Buchanan, McDowell County (McDowell County Sheriff's Office, North Carolina)

First Vice President – Sheriff Clee Atkinson, Edgecombe County (Edgecombe County Sheriff's Office)

Second Vice President – Sheriff Jeff Crisco, Stanly County (Stanly County Sheriff's Office)

Third Vice President – Sheriff Chip Hughes, Craven County (Craven County Sheriff's Office)

Outgoing President Sheriff Mike Roberson of Chatham County (Chatham County Sheriff's Office-NC) will transition to the role of Chairman of the Executive Committee. Sheriff Joey Lemons of Stokes County (Stokes County Sheriff's Office) was reelected as Secretary and Sheriff Van Shaw of Cabarrus County (Cabarrus County Sheriff's Office) was reelected as Treasurer.

Tinkerbell here needs a rescue. She has too many medical issues to list. She doesn’t have any life threatening issues(that we are aware of) just so many English Bulldog issues she needs a rescue to get her back to better health before being ready to be adopted. She is a sweetie and your normal slow laid back Bulldog. PLEASE TAG ANY RESCUES YOU KNOW!
