Cleveland Museum of Natural History

What should we name our female Axolotl? You can come visit her in the Smead Discovery Center in the lower level of the Museum.

Axolotls are critically endangered salamanders native to Xochimilco, a land-locked freshwater lake south of Mexico City. The axolotl looks so different because they do not completely metamorphose. The fuzzy mane around its head are it’s gills!

The main threats to axolotl population are from development and urbanization of their habitat, as well as invasive species and climate change. Living in a land-locked lake with natural barriers, the axolotl was once the apex predator of the lake. They had need to evolve further defenses, so when species of fish were introduced to the lakes, the salamanders stood little chance.

We’ve been restocking and product IS coming in. Weather has been fighting us, product has slowly been showing up and we are looking stocked! This week we had Saltwater Fishes, Diamond Pet Foods, Omega Sea fish foods, Hikari Frozen Foods, Gravel, Bulk Rock, Aquatic Decor, Reptile lighting, Bugs etc. Come and get it! Coming Tues is more Freshwater Fishes.

How long has Two Turtles been in business? "We opened in 1983, so 34 years!"

Why did Two Turtles decide to start a business in Highland Square? "I think because it is such a good location. Highland Square is a close-knit community, it's not your normal block in the city. It is nice to see familiar faces & clientele that are local."

One thing you want the neighborhood to know about your business? "We have the biggest selection of fish in the city and we DO sell cat and dog food for our neighbors that have them. We also have a new website and a page. Please check them both out and give us a "Like"!"
