WHAT YOU DON'T SEE AT THE DOG GROOMERS.......
You dropped your dog off at the salon and picked them up few hours later - fluffy, fresh, and happy. But what you saw was just the tip of the iceberg.

You didn’t see your groomer arrive early to open up the salon, disinfect tools, lay out fresh towels, and check the day’s appointments. You didn’t see them look over your dog from nose to tail before even lifting a brush - checking the coat condition, skin, eyes, ears, nails, and weight.

You didn’t see the careful way they clipped around a wriggly paw, or how they paused to let your dog calm down during the bath. You didn’t notice the matting hidden beneath your dog’s topcoat, or the way the groomer worked slowly to avoid hurting the skin beneath it.

You weren’t there when they spotted a red patch of irritated skin, or a small lump you hadn’t noticed. You heard them gently mention it to you at collection - not to worry you, but because they genuinely care about your dog’s wellbeing.

And after you left, you didn’t see the clean-down , the floor swept, tables cleaned, blades oiled, messages replied to, notes written up for your next visit, and laundry on again.

All of that… for a price that’s often lower than what you’d pay for your own haircut. And your hairdresser?
They don’t have to bathe you, clip your nails, or hold you still while you try to bite the brush.

The truth is ……. dog grooming is so much more than a haircut.

It’s about health, hygiene, comfort, and trust. It’s about knowing dog anatomy, coat types, skin conditions, behaviour management, handling skills, and safe sc******ng techniques. It’s a profession that takes training, practice, and patience.
Most groomers got into this work because they love dogs. But that doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be paid fairly for the physical, emotional, and skilled work they do every single day.

If your dog leaves their groomer happy, healthy and looking good - it’s not by luck. It’s because you have got a good groomer.
So next time, take a moment to thank them. Leave a review.

Tip them if you can. And above all - don’t undervalue them.
They’re doing far more than just washing the dog.

🚫 Think twice before reaching for that bottle of blue dish soap! 🚫

While it might seem like a quick fix, washing your pets with dish soap can lead to skin irritation and other health problems. Remember, a product designed to cut through tough grease can be very harsh on your pet's sensitive skin. 🧼❌

If you're dealing with fleas, there are gentler and safer ways to tackle them! Consider this natural approach:

🛁 Give your dog a bath with a specialized pet shampoo designed for fleas and ticks.
🧺 Wash all pet bedding in hot water to eliminate any lingering fleas or eggs.
🧹 Thoroughly vacuum your home to pick up any remaining fleas and their eggs.

We are grieving the loss of two special clients as we learned today that Buddy has joined Baxter at the rainbow bridge.

Animals are family, and you know losing a family member is always so hard and difficult. Groomers develop a bond with the dogs they groom, and the loss of a client's pet can be a deeply emotional experience. We are happy that Buddy and Baxter had such a wonderful life and family. We will remember the happy greetings of Buddy and Baxter every time they came in to be pampered on their spa day.

Please keep Buddy and Baxter’s family in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
We are sharing in your sadness as you remember your lost loved one.

Your haircut dog will spend over 300+ hours of their life with their groomer. Here are some ways to help them grow into calm, comfortable and cooperative grooming dogs.

1. Start early! You cannot cut their hair to soon. It is a myth that it will change or damage their coat. The sooner the better (8+weeks old). Puppies this young are really good about accepting the grooming process and soaking it up as a new learning experience where if you were to start late (6+ months) than they will be more inclined to have anxiety or fear surrounding all the new experiences. (Vibrating tools on their skin, being touched on every centimeter of their body, the industrial dryer, being away from parents, someone touching and clipping off their toenails, water sprayers, being asked to move around like an opposable action figure, new person, new smells and place, fingers touching their ears, so many new sounds.)

2. Ease them into it. Don’t request a full groom haircut for their very first experience. Start with coming to the shop for treats and attention. Maybe come in for just a nail trim. Start their first groom with an introduction for puppies, so just a bath, blow dry without an actual haircut. By the time you move on to an actual haircut they will be more confident in their surroundings, their groomer won’t be a stranger and will have established some trust and they will feel safer with the tools that are loud.

3. Have realistic expectations. One day that vision you have in your head as the perfect look will happen but a lot of it is up to your pup. Are they comfortable? Will they say still and safe? Have you worked with them and your groomer to help them succeed? Their first haircut may be a tad “sloppy” as they are learning but keep at it and that vision of yours will come to fruition.

4. Communication with your groomer is key. They will walk you through anything you can do at home in between visits to help build your little ones confidence and how to maintain your loves coat.

The chemicals used in standard flea treatments are polluting waterways and having a drastic effect on wildlife like killing songbird chicks🪺.

"Research at the University of Sussex has found that pesticides used in regular flea treatments are in 98% of English rivers, often at levels far higher than those deemed safe.

Some of this is from treated dogs swimming, but much goes down the drain from households, (eg from shampooing dogs, washing bedding, stroking and washing hands) and then enters rivers, according to Dave Goulson, professor of biology at Sussex, who co-authored the study and supervised the research.

Recent research also found that 100% of blue tit🐦 and great tit nests🪹 are contaminated with pesticides💦 from pet flea treatment, as the birds collect fur from dogs and cats to insulate their nests. The study, funded by the charity Songbird Survival, found that nestling mortality is associated with higher levels of the pesticides.

[...] If spot-on products are considered the only appropriate form of treatment, you should brush your pet indoors or in a sheltered area where you can gather the hair afterwards and dispose of it in a sealed bag.

'What we don’t want is the hair blowing away and birds collecting it up as nesting material. I think a lot of us have probably thought that was kind of quite a nice thing for birds to do but clearly it really isn’t if the hair is contaminated with chemicals,' said Millineaux.

It is also important to take care of packaging material, particularly from spot-on products. 'I’ve heard horror stories of people washing out the little containers, which obviously do contaminate water,' added Millineaux.

'What we want to be doing is not washing them out but disposing them of them in something like a seal bag and following any manufacturers guidelines.'

Washing is discouraged for several days after treatments, owing to the risk of product getting into waterways. " - Guardian

THIS FORECAST is for my fellow pet owners! 🐾

(Or just anyone who has to walk on grass. 🤣)

I am cautiously optimistic that the ground may re-freeze (briefly) this weekend.

Enjoy the MUDDY PAW METER! 🥰🐶🐱

The social media posts using a dryer are not funny here’s why…. Read full post below.

A message directly from IAPEG president, Bullet Brown

"If you haven't seen the current trend there is a link FULL of groomers tormenting dogs with dryers below, but you might not want to look. The trend involves using a blaster on dogs to get a reaction that matches the beat of Eminem's song "Just Lose It".

You groomers do NOT represent the professionals in our industry and are exactly why pet owners need transparency. You're not funny. You're not cute. You're a disgrace to our profession and a danger to pets everywhere,

What you are doing is called 'torture' or if you prefer 'groomer induced trauma'. You would rather laugh and make a tik tok video for your followers than work with a dog who obviously needs help or refer them to a groomer who can.

This industry is changing. I know because we are making it happen. Pet owners will demand that these tortuous sessions come to an end and we'll be there to back them."
