Later in the evening after Silver Bullet was delivered, Poppy went into labor around 9:00 PM, finally kidding with the first buckling an hour later.
Showing no signs of progression, we thought she might only have the one, but after bumping her abdomen, that was clearly not the case. We feared we might be in for another late night vet call that could very well end in a c-section. Before we made that call, Farmer Dave decided to try his hand at pulling the stuck kid himself.
After reaching in up to about his forearm, he was able to locate the kid and determined it was in a breeched position. We gave everything we had to get the kid out of Poppy, and finally, he came out.
We assumed it would be DOA after that battle, but he took a breath and we went to work. It took a while for him to catch his breath, get his land legs, and nurse, but he is completely healthy.
We were a little worried about possible infection and internal damage with Poppy between having to go inside to get the kid out and the amount of pulling that occurred. She was a little off for a few days, but after some antibiotics, pain medication, and TLC, mama and babies are all okay.
Poppy gave birth to two beautiful bucklings and kidding season at Orchard Top Farms is officially over for 2025. What a grand finale ππ
