Sweet, sweet patient Simon welcomed so many fosters into his home and helped each one learn to trust and love again. He encouraged countless people to start fostering, saving countless lives. He will be so very missed. Rest easy, sweet Simon. 🐾 🌈
Some dogs change one life. Simon changed thousands.
The beloved rescue dog of Isabel Klee ( Simon Sits) has crossed Rainbow Bridge after a courageous battle with inoperable liver cancer.
Rescued from the dog meat trade around 7 years ago, Simon overcame an unimaginable beginning to become a gentle teacher, helping frightened foster dogs learn to trust again. Despite living with epilepsy, he inspired millions through his quiet resilience, helped raise hundreds of thousands of dollars for animal welfare, and became a powerful advocate for rescue alongside his person, Isabel Klee.
When Simon was diagnosed with terminal cancer just months ago, Isabel and her partner, Jacob, made a promise that his final days would be filled with nothing but love. When it became clear that the cancer combined with his epilepsy was taking too big a toll, they decided together it was time to say goodbye so that he would not suffer and so he could pass on with dignity. In his last few days they took him hiking (one of his favorite things) and celebrated his life surrounded by family and friends.
Although Simon won't be there for Isabel and Jacob's wedding in a few months, his paw prints will be everywhere. In a video, Isabelle shared at his Celebration of Life that he got to explore their wedding venue with them, chewed a stick in the exact place where they'll exchange their vows, and will forever be part of every milestone they share.
His impact will continue far beyond the life he lived. The recently dedicated Simon Sits Veterinary Clinic will help homeless animals receive lifesaving care, while the countless foster dogs he comforted—and the families inspired to foster or adopt because of him—will carry his legacy forward.
As Muddy Paws Rescue NYC beautifully wrote: "Once in a lifetime (if you're lucky), a dog like Simon finds a human like Isabel, and it's magic. And the thing about magic is, even when something seems to disappear, it's never truly gone."
Rest easy, sweet Simon. Thank you for showing the world that love, kindness, and one extraordinary dog really can change countless lives. ❤️🐾
