Our lessons kids are making nice progress this spring. I don't let them ride outside till they are pretty good riders as the horses can act a bit different than they do inside.

Schleese will be back this week, Wednesday and Thursday. Their saddles are the most comfortable for rider and horse. They are the only saddle brand developed with the female rider in mind. A good fitting saddle is essential to our horses' longevity and health. There is one spot still open if you would like to get your current saddles fit assessed or if you have been interested in getting a saddle. Contact Christina at 605-216-0677 if interested.

The weather has been so wonderful lately! Keeping the lesson horses in shape and behaving well sometimes is a hard job. I try to make sure each horse has advanced students but sometimes that doesn't always work out. Fridays lately have been filled with schooling some of the lesson horses. Teaching them new skills and breaking bad habits. Just know for every well seasoned lesson horse someone put quality time into them and keeps up with it. Consistent riding horses require routine work for maintenance. Pictured is Prince and Teddy. Teddy is working on his loading skills.

Hands on horse experience is preferred but willing to train the right candidate. Student will get to assist in a wide variety of activities from lessons, barn maintenance, and training horses. We do have on-site housing as well for those students who live out of town.

Spring time is a busy season for us. Most recently, we had Groton Veterinary Clinic out to do some routine chiropractic and acupuncture on lesson and training horses. Our horses work hard for us, so it is important to give them routine body work.

We are very grateful for all the moisture our recent storm brought. It was a challenge to move, and things will definitely be messy for a while. Dad chose a good time to be gone.

Although the weather is a bit cooler this week then it has been shedding season is upon us! Spring is definitely here.

Zorbie views himself as our barn mascot of sorts. His favorite thing to do lately has been taking sun naps in any soft bedding he can find. He is also very good at convincing people to throw his ball.

Last week we had all the horses spring vaccines done and some of them had their teeth floated. We are very lucky to have Groton Veterinary Clinic to work with. Having a vet you trust is crucial to the well being of our horses.

Spring means project time! Dad has been working on emptying out some of the feeders and fixing the hay net. He had the worlds best helper Ritz! Ritz is very helpful by eating evething you are working with and putting his face right next to yours! You do have to be a little leary of him as he will try to taste you occasionally. He is so cute though! Dad has to shoo him away quite a bit. Dad has nick named him the puppy, but who doesn't like a puppy!

I am absolutely loving riding Merlin in his Quartet saddle. And it doesn't hurt that it is so pretty! I am very thankful that my clients see the benefits from custom saddles and invest in them for their horses.

Fitness is very important to being a good strong rider. You need to work on yourself outside of just riding. This winter, I have been working on my position in the saddle a lot. My Pivo has been very helpful in checking my progress. Lately, I have added running to my normal exercise routine. I personally love strength training and my goal every year is to be stronger than the last. I have already seen the added benefit from running in my endurance while riding. My goal this year was at the end of show days to be less physically exhausted. If we expect our equine partners to be athletes, we need to be athletes ourselves.

Teddy is making great strides in becoming a lesson horse. Most recently, I started using my older Schleese saddle on him. He didn't seem to mind at all. When you ride 5 to 6 horses a day like I do, the comfort of riding is important. I love how the Schleese saddles help my legs and back not to hurt. They are the only type of saddle specifically designed with women in mind. They will be here in April if you are interested in seeing what they are all about.

We have been having a fabulous spring so far. Taking full advantage of it and using our outdoor arena for training horses and lessons.

Merlin has been doing well with his training and has graduated to his "adult" saddle. It is from Schleese and is the style Quartet. He did very good with his first ride in it. If you are looking to get your saddle assessed, Schleese will be here in April again. Contact Christina if you are interested.

We have had a couple things break recently at the barn. One of our indoor hydrants stopped working, so we had to get it replaced. It was a good time to see just how broke the show horses are. It took them most of the day and was quite loud at times. We are very thankful to Wally's Skid Steer with Lincoln and his colleague for replacing it in a timely manner.
