Senior dogs don’t just experience physical changes as they age — some may also experience changes in memory, behaviour, and awareness.

Canine Cognitive Dysfunction (CCD), often referred to as doggy dementia, is more common than many people realise.

Some signs can be subtle at first:
• confusion or blank stares
• walking in circles or restless pacing
• changes in sleep patterns
• less interest in interaction or play
• forgetting routines or toilet habits

Many pet parents assume these changes are “just old age,” but early recognition and support can make a meaningful difference in your dog’s comfort and quality of life. 💛

With patience, routine, enrichment, gentle TTouch bodywork, and supportive care, senior dogs can still enjoy comfort, connection, and joyful moments. 😊

Every small step we take today can help our fur kids feel better tomorrow. 🐾❤️

Caring for a senior dog is different.

It’s slower.
Softer.
More intentional.

It’s noticing the small changes…
and responding with patience, care, and love.

Because in this stage of life,
what they need most… is for us to show up for them 🐾💛

If you’ve been wondering how to better support your senior dog,
our upcoming free session may be a good place to start. Places are already full but you can dm us for the next session.

Did you know 1 in 5 dogs over the age of 1 may be affected by osteoarthritis? 😮

Many pet parents assume slowing down is “just old age,” but signs like:
• stiffness when getting up
• hesitation on stairs
• limping
• lagging behind on walks
can actually be early signs of arthritis pain. 🦴⚡️

The earlier we recognise these subtle changes, the sooner we can support our dogs with:
✔ massage & TTouch bodywork
✔ home modifications
✔ lifestyle adjustments
✔ weight management
✔ joint-friendly exercises

Small changes can make a BIG difference in comfort, confidence, and quality of life.

💛 Healthy joints are not just about treatment — they are about daily care, awareness, and prevention.

✨ Have you noticed any of these signs in your dog? 🐶🐾

🐾 Ten weeks with Oppa 💛

It has been about ten weeks since Oppa came home.

When he was first rescued, he had been abandoned, blind, and in very poor condition. He had to go through surgeries and adjust to a completely new environment. For a senior dog, that is a lot to go through in such a short time.

But Oppa has been quietly teaching us something beautiful.

With patience, gentle care, and a safe place to rest, he has slowly begun to find his rhythm again. He has learned his way around the house, settled into daily routines, and the way he now sleeps peacefully tell us that he knows he is finally safe.

Senior dogs may come with difficult histories, but they also carry incredible resilience. Given the chance, they can still experience comfort, trust, and joy.

Oppa is a gentle reminder that it’s never too late for a dog to feel loved and at home. 🐶💛

And thank you for your patience if we’ve been a little quieter here lately. We truly appreciate this community and the kindness you always show our fur kids.

Caring for Oppa has also deepened our appreciation for the unique needs of senior dogs — something very close to our hearts here at Paws Fur Life.

If you share your life with a senior dog or rescue dog, we’d love to hear their story too. 💛

Long Nails = Hidden Pain for Dogs. 😩

Many people think nail trimming is just about keeping their dog looking neat. In reality, nail length plays a very important role in your dog’s posture, movement, and overall comfort.

When your dog’s nails become too long, they touch the ground before the paw pads do. This changes how your dog stands and walks.

Over time, long nails can cause dogs to:
• shift their weight unnaturally
• change their gait
• strain their joints and muscles

This compensation can lead to discomfort in the wrists, shoulders, hips, and back. If prolonged, long nails can even cause changes in joint alignment and bone structure. For senior dogs especially, this added strain can worsen existing issues like stiffness, arthritis, or reduced mobility.

A simple nail trim can make a big difference. Regular nail care is a small but powerful way to support your dog’s long-term comfort, mobility, and wellbeing. 🐾❤

As dogs age, everyday tasks can quietly become difficult, like getting up, walking on slippery floors, climbing stairs, or resting comfortably.

Thoughtful home adjustments help senior dogs:
• prevent slips and falls
• reduce joint strain
• feel safer and more confident
• maintain independence longer

In addition to those shown,

🐾 Shorter, more frequent walks instead of long ones prevents fatigue and overexertion, and maintains mobility consistently

🐾 Puzzle/snuffle mats or scent enrichment at home keeps the brain engaged, and supports cognitive health in ageing dogs

🐾 Regular nail trims prevents long nails which affect posture, balance
and compensatory strain
