🐾 Tip Toe Through the Tabbies! 🐾

Twenty-four stripy stowaways have sailed across the ocean and landed safely on Haywards Hill! 🚢🐱

These gorgeous tabbies arrived as part of a rescue-to-rescue transfer between two overwhelmed organisations. Our friends at Marlborough Four Paws was bursting at the seams with cats, while HUHA was overflowing with dogs. So, in a true act of rescue teamwork, 24 tabbies swapped places with 6 puppies, giving both of us a little breathing room and a lot more hope. ❤️

Now these beautiful 6–8 month old tabbies and a few oldies are ready to try their luck at finding
forever families on the north island.

If you're looking for a little stripy love in your life, we have a tabby to suit every home. Some are a little shy and will blossom with patience and kindness, while others are ready to take their new homes by storm from the moment they arrive! 😸

Every cat is:
✅ Desexed
✅ Vaccinated
✅ Microchipped
✅ Flea treated
✅ Worm treated

Whether you're after a cuddly companion, a playful sidekick, a confident little character, or a special project these tabbies are ready for their adventure with you.

If you have just the right home please reach out to

And come and meet our tabby crew!

We need help!

We need good homes!!

This poor girl comes from a domestic violence situation. Thanks to ThePet Pantry we are taking her in for critical care today.

Earlier this week we took 11 malnourished pups, because if we didnt step in they would have been dumped.

The week before 5 dogs came in. Two from a horrible violent situation, two neglected and one with critical health issues, as we helped, community members, an overwhelmed rescue, and our friends at of Islands Animal Rescue. And the phone rings with a dozen more desperate situations everday.

We have pups in our offices, board room. Every room is full and there is no more space to squeeze them.

We are being creative, even negotiating with the wonderful crew at four paws. That if they take 6 pups, we will take 21 of their 157 cats...yip they are exploding too.

The only way we can continue to help and save lives, is if we rehome and make space.

(And people stop breeding!!😡)

We have gorgeous pups and very special/special needs dogs ready for adoption (and lots of gorgeous cats, bunnies, horses, cows and minis too!)....we just need the right homes!!

So if you have been pondering adoption, now is the time.

The animals in our care are safe and adored by everyone at HUHANZ ...but if there is a chance you could offer an experienced and safe home....please put your hand up now.

For some, we would consider along term foster. But for most, its adoption time, they just deserve a home of their very own🤗

Please reach out if you have any questions.

** Community rehome** Nala - Currently located in the Manawatu region

We have not met the lovely Nala, but we have been asked to help her owners find her a forever home. This is what we have been told...

Due to unforeseen circumstances, we are needing to find a new, loving home for our beautiful girl Nala. She is a 6-year-old Fox Terrier x Pitbull.

She has been fully vaccinated and microchipped, she is desexed and has been registered.

Her commands are: Sit, wait, eat, settle.

She doesn't have behavioural / medical issues that we are aware of.

She is good with other dogs but not good with cats

Nala is an active, affectionate dog who loves her walks and absolutely loves water. She would thrive with someone who has time for her, enjoys being active, and is looking for a loyal companion. She is friendly with adults. With children, she can manage them in doses, and absolutely loves being loved with cuddles or just sitting with her.

She truly is our furbaby and we love her so much, she still has so much love, life, and joy to give. Our deepest wish is for her to have a happy, safe future with someone who will cherish her as much as we do.  Please contact her owner direct on 0273487331 to find out more.

🥹🙌

Today we want to acknowledge something both incredibly sad and incredibly meaningful for animal welfare in the Hutt Valley.

After decades of rescuing, caring for, and rehoming cats in their community. The amazing Upper Hutt Feline Charitable Trust (UHFCT), Originally known as The Upper Hutt Animal Rescue Society - founded by Alan and Kathleen Heathcote White in 1967, has made the very difficult decision to wrap up operations.

For many years, UHFCT’s passionate volunteers have quietly changed lives, saving vulnerable cats, supporting people in need, and showing unwavering compassion to animals who had nowhere else to turn. Their impact on the community cannot be overstated.

As part of winding up the charity, UHFCT has chosen to leave its assets to their values-aligned animal welfare friends at HUHA. In particular, it has been decided that the UHFCT building will be sold to help support HUHA’s ongoing rescue, veterinary, and welfare work during what is an incredibly difficult financial time for charities everywhere.

Like many rescue organisations across New Zealand, both UHFCT and HUHA have faced rising demand for help while donations and funding continue to tighten. Survival not a given. But through this gift, there is hope that this legacy of compassion can continue, and that together, we can keep saving lives.

We are profoundly honoured and humbled by the trust UHFCT has placed in us.

This gift will not simply support HUHA as an organisation, it will help strengthen animal welfare outcomes across the wider community through rescue support, veterinary assistance, desexing programmes, and practical frontline care for animals and the people who love them.

Most importantly, the incredible volunteers of UHFCT have been warmly invited to join the HUHA whānau so that, together, we can continue this work side by side.

While this moment comes with sadness, it also comes with unity, strength, and hope. UHFCT’s legacy will not end here. Their compassion, dedication, and commitment to helping animals will continue through every life we save moving forward.

From all of us at HUHA...thank you UHFCT 🥹

We are so incredibly grateful, and deeply honoured to help carry your mission forward. 💛

🙌Bunny is STILL waiting…

We genuinely thought this girl would have been snapped up by now 💛

Bunny has been having the BEST time racing around the play paddock at HUHA with her bestie Meg, showing off her zoomies, confidence, and cheeky little personality. She’s busy, playful, smart, and always ready to see what’s happening next 😆

Now 4 months old, Bunny is a Terrier x Kelpie mix (our best guess!) and she’s growing into a really fun little dog.

** Community rehome** Yogi - Currently located in the Taranaki region

We have not met the lovely Yogi, but we have been asked to help his owners find
him a forever home. This is what we have been told...

We're needing to rehome our much loved dog Yogi and are looking for the right home for our sweet but sensitive boy.

Yogi is a medium-sized Retriever x Poodle x King Charles Cavalier Spaniel, turning 5 in June. He’s smart, affectionate and loves fetch, tug and cuddles once he knows you.

He's crate trained, comfortable being left at home for a time, can use a dog door and is very food motivated so trainable.

But you should know that Yogi is also a sensitive soul which can come with some challenges. He is reactive to dogs on lead or behind a fence because he's nervous, although does well with calm, gradual introductions to neutral dogs. He's previously showed resource guarding with high value chews (managed by avoiding these) and will alert bark. He hasn't had a lot of exposure to children or spent time around cats. We’ve worked with a professional behaviourist and would be happy to support transition training for him to settle into his new home.

This is incredibly tough for us. Yogi is the sweetest dog who just needs the right environment to shine.

If you think this could be with you please get in touch with  on [email protected]
