So glad we could help Te Are Manu in Rarotonga, thanks to Dr Aimii for arranging the donations and volunteering her time to help the local community in Rarotonga with their pets.

Aimii (one of our Beyond the scrubs team) and Pip, one of the amazing aunties who runs the Rarotonga clinic are here with just some of the generous donations from one of our amazing sponsors and the Welcome Bay Vet clinic where Aimii works in NZ.

As a clinic that runs largely on donations and volunteers we are excited to have a spey clinic day included in our conference schedule to help out the local community in Rarotonga while we are on the island.

Poor Humphries is only 6 years old, but his teeth were in a very bad state.

Thankfully, his wonderful new owner acted quickly and brought him in to get everything sorted. Dr Rachel worked her magic, and the difference is incredible — just look at the before and after results! 🦷✨

Dental X-rays play a vital role in cases like Humphries’. They’re the only way we can see what’s happening beneath the gumline and determine exactly which teeth need to be removed. Sometimes teeth that look healthy on the surface are actually diseased underneath, while heavily tartared teeth can still be hiding some surprisingly healthy roots.

Now Humphries is feeling so much better with his fresh, clean smile — more comfortable, happier, and ready to get back to his best life. 💙

Has your pet been scratching more than usual lately? 🐾

Autumn in Tauranga can be a tough time for pets with sensitive skin. Itchy skin, red patches, licking, and irritated ears are all common as the seasons change.

🍂 Why it happens:
Mould spores and dust mites increase in damp conditions
Shedding coats can trap irritants against the skin
Indoor heating can dry out skin
More time indoors = more exposure to household allergens

👀 Watch for:
Excessive scratching, red or flaky skin, head shaking, ear odour, or persistent licking.

🏡 At-home help:
Gentle baths with hypoallergenic shampoo
Regular brushing to remove loose fur
Wiping paws after walks
Clean, fresh bedding weekly

If symptoms don’t settle or worsen, it’s time for a vet check.

Next up in our ‘Meet the Pets’ series is Orca - one of Dr Aimii’s very special rescue pups 💛

A true Northland special, Orca is possibly a Collie x Pitbull mix and was adopted at just 10 weeks old. Since then, she’s become the part of the family they never knew was missing!

Orca is obsessed with beach adventures, tennis balls, and cuddles, and has absolutely slotted right into life here in the Bay 😊

Aimii first found Orca online after meeting another gorgeous client, Roger the foxy, who was also from the amazing .o.ianimalrescue 🐶
