🐟 Weekly Fish Spotlight 🐠

The Gertrudes Blue Eye Rainbows are a fantastic nano fish. They do best in a well planted aquarium with other species of a similar size or on their own in a single species aquarium. They can be a timid fish so the larger the group the better with these guys.

If you could keep ANY fish, what would it be and why? 🐠

No limits on tank size, budget, or availability.

My answer: polka-dot stingray. Their vivid markings and graceful way of moving around really intrigue me, and I would absolutely love to have one someday.

🚨 Aquarium Myth Busting 🚨

The belief that goldfish can live happily in small, unfiltered glass bowls has been around for many years, but it has been widely debunked.

In reality, goldfish can grow to over 30 cm in length and produce a significant amount of waste. Because of this, they require large aquariums or ponds with adequate filtration to thrive.

When goldfish are kept in undersized or poorly maintained environments, they can suffer from stunted growth, ammonia poisoning, low oxygen, increased stress, disease, and a significantly reduced lifespan.

Minimum recommended aquarium size:
• 75 L for one goldfish
• +40 L for each additional goldfish

Providing the right environment helps ensure your goldfish live long, healthy lives.

One of the most common mistakes in fishkeeping is overfeeding.
A good rule of thumb is to only feed what your fish can eat in 1–2 minutes. Excess food breaks down in the tank, which can lead to poor water quality and algae problems.

🐟 Weekly Fish Spotlight 🐠

The white spot talking catfish originates from South America, appearing in parts of the Amazon basin in Bolivia, Brazil, Colombia and Peru. This species will often hide during daylight hours, usually venturing out during the night. The white spot talking catfish is relatively social by nature so will display its natural behaviours when kept in a group of 4 or more, however, they can be kept individually with no issues.

They are nocturnal so do best in a dimly lit set up with plenty of cover with aquatic plants, driftwood or artificial caves. A soft, sandy substrate is also best as they will rummage in the substrate to forage.
