A strain of H5 bird flu (H5N1) has recently been detected in a wild sea-bird in New Zealand.

There have been no detections in poultry or live-stock associated with this case. The risk to the public remains low.

However, if you have a sick or dead bird, please call us for advice before bringing it to the clinic.

Here's what you need to know:
🔴 Call the clinic or MPI
🔴 Keep children and pets away from sick or dead birds
🔴 Avoid handling or moving birds where possible
🔴 Wash your hands thoroughly if contact occurs

IMPORTANT: If you see 3 or more sick or dead wild birds together, please report them immediately to:
MPI Exotic Pets and Disease Hotline
0800 80 99 66.
Take videos/photos & GPS location.
