Well there was no grooming going on here today!! Only puddle jumping 😂 school closed due to burst river banks and this was our street about 10am after some of the flooding and rain had eased!!
We’re fine and the road is draining well, hope everyone else out there stayed safe and as dry as possible! 🌧️☔️💦

My kids also got to enter the groom competitions too at Groomalong 2025!

They entered in the model dog section, 15s and under, Kane 7years old and Raven just 5 they were the youngest to compete, and Raven won!
She got 1st place and a cash prize, and seeing there was only one adult model dog head entered, she went up against that one to, it was me! I was the one who entered in the adult section so it was mother against daughter, it was up to the public to decide who won and of course everyone cheered for the 5 year old!
So she took the 1st place ribbon and cash prize for that too!!

We had so much fun doing these they are actually really tricky to do and they done such an amazing job, they blew me away with their creativity.

Model dogs are used by groomers to practice on in groom schools to practice styles without worries about moving live animals, it’s a way to improve scissor skills too and to just get wild with creative ideas! I’ve learnt how to carve love hearts, butterflies and make flowers on dogs with their own hair the possibilities are endless on these things!

More pics from Groomalong 2025, so many gorgeous dogs 💖🐕 with the most talented groomers making them extra beautiful, all well out their comfort zones, trying to impress the judges and win the biggest prettiest ribbon.
I got two second places with my poodles and one first place with my model dog.
Saturday I competed with Waru the bichon in pink, however the judges thought the style I done didn’t fit the class it was in so we didn’t get a placement, bugga!

Got my professional photos from Groomalong2025, Christchurch.

Next to me in the pics are the very talented judges Nadia Bungelli all the way from Canada and Melanie Newman from Australia, they came to judge the grooming competitions and also put on seminars over the long weekend too.

The day of each competition usually starts about 4.30am, getting up to get my dog to a bath and have them washed, dried, brushed out to perfection, sanitary done, nails, ears and pads all neatened up before prejudging begins about 8am, then we’re all given our time limit and we all start at the same time, then an intense groom!
Angela from the National Dog Grooming Association of NZ yells over the speaker tools down!! Once times up, And that’s it!
Then the judges will come around and comb over your dog, checking everything! Leaving no hair uncombed 😅 , then writing on paper, then eventually they call out the people who have won a ribbon through the speaker, (1st,2nd,3rd) after the ribbon calling and photos done, we can get critiques on the groom we done, this part is really important to me, to get the opinion of such highly skilled groomers and learn some new tips and tricks and be the best groomer i can be for my customers.

Over the long weekend the judges also done a bunch of seminars on Schnauzer’s, Bichon frise and the Cocker spaniel, I especially enjoyed the schnauzer seminar and picked up some great new tips I’m sure my schnauzer customers will love 🐾

Ekkkkk the massive transformation is what got me this spot, I feel like I have a brand new dog, and im in love with him in this style!!
from a massively overgrown Teddy style to the German poodle clip, shave face and everything!! And yes there was tears 😂
but the tears were before the groom .. I was up all night brushing him out, he was so badly matted I felt like pulling out ( yup even groomers make these mistakes!!) sometimes life gets on top of us and the dog doesn’t get brushed, argh so it was a roller coaster of emotions, luckily Echo is a saint for grooming, this was his first competition and the pour fella was tired too, falling asleep on the table I had to wake him up a few times 😂

I’m at groomalong2025 this weekend in Christchurch, competing in grooming competitions and attending seminars, a long weekend of learning and connecting with groomers form all over nz and the world.

Yesterday I competed with my boy Falcon in the asain fusion class, and we got 2nd place!! this class has no levels so I was up against master groomers (I’m classed as an intermediate groomer) today I’m competing with a bichon in the Salon freestyle class, and tomorrow I’m competing with my big white goofy poodle who I’ll be transforming from a Teddy style into a proper poodle 🫣 I might cry in the ring having to shave his face 🤣 I’ve never shaved my poodles face before !

It’s back down to just one person in here now 😁 definitely plan ahead for your dogs groom appointments, booking in for the whole year is a great way to insure your dog gets their groom when it’s needed 😁
