Honouring the Legacy of Marea & Gary Faigan

With deep sadness, we share the passing of Marea Faigan, a cornerstone of our Pouakai Zoo family. Marea, alongside her late husband, Gary Faigan, dedicated their lives to
creating a place where animals, people, and memories could thrive. Together, they founded and nurtured the zoo from its earliest days in the 1970s, shaping it into the beloved community treasure it is today.

Marea and Gary were inseparable—a team whose shared passion brought joy to generations. Through their dedication, countless children experienced the magic of feeding
and interacting with animals, and families built cherished memories together. Their vision, hard work, and unwavering care turned the zoo into a home, not just for the animals but for
the entire community.

Though Gary passed away nine years ago, we now take this moment to honour them both. Their legacy will forever live on in the laughter of visiting families, the kindness of volunteers
they inspired, and the animals they so lovingly cared for.

Our thoughts are with the Faigan family and all who had the privilege of knowing Marea and Gary. We invite our community to share their memories and stories in the comments as we
celebrate the lives of these two remarkable people.

Rest in peace, Marea & Gary. Your legacy will never be forgotten
