Is your fun worth this kind of fear?

If you’re one of the majority of New Zealanders who agree that fireworks aren’t worth the fear they cause animals, now’s your chance to stand up for them by signing our open letter.

From next Monday 2 November until Wednesday 5 November, fireworks will be available for public sale in New Zealand. But what many see as a harmless bit of fun causes real, lasting harm for animals.

It’s time for change, because the terror fireworks cause isn’t worth the momentary fun of setting them off. There are countless stories of animals being terrified, injured, and even killed by fireworks-related incidences. There’s no excuse to continue this kind of cruelty year after year—especially when research shows that the majority of New Zealanders support a ban on the private sale and use of fireworks.

Ahead of Guy Fawkes Day, we need your help to tell the incoming Parliament that change is overdue. Because your fun isn’t worth their fear.

We are wanting to send our thanks to Shaun Taylor, a talented local builder and fellow animal lover, for making and donating our fantastic new 'Community Donation Cupboard'!
You can find this new peice of kit at our Napier Center, filled with all sorts of second hand goodies for people in financial hardship to treat their pets.

With only three teeth, eyes that would scare unwanted visitors away and a personality as unique as her looks, this girl proves that you don't need to be perfect to be someone's purrfect match! 😻🖤

Young at heart, a little older in age, and 100% Morticia! 👑 She's one of a kind, and we wouldn't have her any other way.

Morticia, we'll miss your quirky little ways, but we're so happy you've found your forever family. May your new life be filled with love, comfort, and all the cosy spots a girl like you deserves. 🏡❤️🐾🐾🐾

Like many of the animals that come through the SPCA, little Daisy was the victim of unspeakable animal abuse.

Since being taken into care, Daisy has known consistency, stability and love from her SPCA family - but now she is ready to find a home to call her own outside of the shelter...

💙 A different kind of Forever Home Friday 💙

Its not everyday the Napier Team have a local celebrity visit, but when Sooty, the "Mayor of Ahuriri" was brought in by a caring member of public, he jumped at the chance to get some free PR in.

Sooty unfortunately declined our requests for an autograph, but was willing to participate in an impromptu photoshoot. He spent some time hearing about all the great work being done in the Animal Welfare Sector, and enjoyed getting up close and personal with his beloved constituents.

His busy agenda didn't allow for a long visit though, and shortly after, he was picked up by his people, and escorted to his next public event before the pup-erazzi showed up. Take care Sooty, you definitely get our vote!🏅🐾

📣Help us, help you.... our Hastings Team are working hard to organize a free Canine Vaccination Event, and we know there will be lots of families needing extra help with dog food that turn up on the day.

You can help! Please consider donating a bag of dry puppy food so our team can pass it on to the animals in our community who need the help most. 🙏 🐾🫶💙

Can you give 2 hours of your time for the animals? 🐶🐱

We need volunteer street collectors for our Fill the Bucket street appeal, which is taking place on 30 and 31 October in Napier and all around the country!

What's involved:
👉 Just 2 hours of your time (or more if you like) on either Friday 30 or Saturday 31 October
👉 Working in pairs at a collection site in your area, collecting donations from the public
👉 You'll be provided with the collection bucket, bibs, and stickers.
👉 You're welcome to bring your dog with you! Just remember to bring their water bowl and bags.

Every cent donated from our Fill the Bucket street appeal goes back to the thousands of animals that we help each year. This is a critical fundraiser, and we couldn't do it without our collection volunteers!
