*Duke urgently needs our help*
Duke has been in the pound for over 3 months now and we need to get him out into a permanent/foster home asap.
Duke’s 7/8 months old, a Rottweiler mix, currently medium in size but still has time to grow.
He’s a friendly, affectionate boy who loves being by his people’s side, so we’re looking for a home where he can be part of the family, sleep indoors and not be left on his own for long periods.
He gets on well with the other dogs at the pound but will try to hump, so he works best with a dog that can tell him off, and he seems to listen well.
As he’s still entire and tries to hump, we don’t think he’d suit a home with another entire male.
Once interest comes in for Duke he will be des*xed, but that won’t change all his tendencies overnight.
We don’t know what Duke is like with cats, but he’s young and smart enough to learn how to behave around them, so a home with a confident cat is possible.
Duke needs work on his manners as he will occasionally jump up when excited and hasn’t spent much time on a lead, so he’ll need a family that can commit to giving him the training he needs.
He is smart and loves food, so that should help with training.
Duke used to escape his previous property a lot, so he will need to go somewhere with secure fencing.
We unfortunately can’t save every dog, and there are dogs getting put down in pounds all around the country every single day.
It’s a very sad industry to be involved in, and most days can be very challenging.
People will take on dogs without much thought, so please if you’re wanting to take on a dog, make sure you have the time, property and funds to be able to give a dog the life it deserves.
It’s a life long commitment, if you can’t give a dog that then please don’t get one.
If you know you can provide a dog with everything it needs then check out your local pound or rescue and save a life ❤️
As with every dog that comes through the rescue, there is a cost to adopt, which is to cover des*xing and vaccinations.
If you’re interested in giving Duke his forever home, or think you could foster, then send us a message.
He’s located in the Waikato area.
