Another horse on debut at Manfield yesterday...was Sacha & Josh's lovely young stallion Whiskey D'Acciaio (aka Cas). This was his first time, away from home, under saddle. He was just there to learn, & take in the atmosphere. He was very well behaved & took everything in his stride.
Cas will start his ridden competition career in the spring. Look out for him in the SJ & SH rings. His first foal is a rising yearling filly out of Kiwi Ash.
Returning to work was rising 5yo Home Alone George, who Josh rides for owner Heather McDonald. George is by Double J Typhoon out of a TB mare by Zed. George placed in the 4yo SJ final at last year's Young Horse Champs.

Meersbrooke Iced Ripples last foal debuted at Manfield practice SJ today. Meersbrooke F1 is a rising 5yo mare out of Meersbrooke Gem Twist - a TB mare Sach used to jump. Will be exciting to see F1 out in competition. She's the full package. Talent with a great temperament

Meersbrooke Iced Ripples...rising 28yo. Still sound & able to raise a sustained canter. Especially at the sight of a halter approaching, or any upstart young colts 😂

Very sad to hear Iced Ripples older brother passed away today aged 29yrs. Larkspur Ripples went to Leigh Lark & Robin as a weanling & remained there for the rest of his life. He left a wonderful legacy through all his progeny.

Sad news recently. But Wildcard was much loved & cared for. X
Her grandson Meersbrooke Twist recently moved to a new home. Dam Meersbrooke Tequila is enjoying her retirement with long time owner Ann Deane.
Rest in aroha our beautiful girl
Meersbrooke Wildcard.
We were trusted to keep you safe until the end and you passed away in your paddock after a year of running the hills being freeee.
We decided early on she needed just to rest as she was a hōiho who would jump no matter what and we ate thrilled we stuck to our promise to you.

I've started transferring our old VHS tapes to digital. Here's a clip from 1993 of our stallion Meersbrooke Ambassador's first public outing as a newly backed, just turned, 3yo (Angie Dorian riding). 5yo Meersbrooke Duchess (Liz Rennie riding) is helping him navigate the experience. Ahead of them on the clip are 2 of the Fryatts stallions. Belmont Golden Boy (by Ramzes ll) & the imp WB Gruen Horn de Trichon, plus some of their led youngstock.

Meersbrooke Farm was established in 1982 - originally in the Waikato, before shifting to Taihape in 1993 & then Palmerston North in 2013. We’ve been breeding sport horses & re-educating off the track Thoroughbreds all that time. Our original homebred sporthorses were by reg. Clydesdale stallion Guildford Duke out of TB mares.
Duke’s legacy has continued through his son Meersbrooke Ambassador (Clyde/TB x) & then grandsons - Meersbrooke Iced Ripples (M. Ambassador x Bay Ripples) & Iced Ripples full brothers, Larkspur Ripples & Meersbrooke Sparkling Ripples, who both became foundation stallions - for Larkspur & Camberley Studs.
We’ve bred performance ponies since 1995 - originally by Meersbrooke Sparhawk - dec. (stationbred) & now, by Whakarpiro Sand n Surf (cremello pinto stationbred).
We also breed Thoroughbreds, primarly to race - we train ourselves. We’ve had four TB stallions - our current one being Sir Ego. We also take on racehorses from other trainers at times - either to continue racing, &/or re-educate as sport horses.
Our horse & ponies are very known, & have competed successfully to top level across many disciplines. They’ve also made lots of recreational riders & pony club riders very happy. We no longer breed the sporthorses & performance ponies commercially, but we have the odd one that still becomes available for sale. Most of our horses & ponies for sale these days, are full Thoroughbred.
To assist our training operation we’re constantly expanding our facilities. Hence the cross country course, show jumps & the Cowboy Challenge paddock. The later was built for the horses we had in this years Dunstan Ex Factor Competition at Equidays. It’s for TB’s who’ve retired, & had less than 12mths of sporthorse training prior to the competition. 2018, was the 3rd year we’ve had horses competing there. Meersbrooke Miss Mindi won the Cowboy Challenge class there this year.
