Happy Mother’s Day to my amazing mum. How lucky are we to have such an amazing woman in our lives. Today I am incredible grateful to be a mum and to have my mum with me. She is an incredible woman and a brilliant granny. To my own little girl, the absolute light of my life. She is strong willed and feisty, something I hope will never change. Thank you for giving me the greatest gift ❤️

***DO YOUR RESEARCH***
Over the last few weeks on social media I saw so many posts popping up for both dog walking & boarding. The dog minding market is saturated. Unfortunately , it is a business that can be set up without any experience or any qualifications, not even basic first aid. Individuals are doing it cheaper, not paying insurance & not registered for tax.

It is a business that people think they can make easy on the side cash, they love dogs and think what’s the harm. But the reality is, an inexperienced person walking or boarding dogs can result in things going drastically wrong. Mixing dogs with different personalities, size and ages. Not knowing what to do if the dog your walking gets attacked by a strangers dog, not seeing the signs of behavioral issues - all dogs give them, dog fights or bites never happen out of the blue. If the dog slips a collar & lead, will they know how to calmly get your dog back, what to do if your animal has a medical emergency, do they have the transport to bring your dog to a vet.

It is more than walking a dog. Your caring for someone precious pet, may have keys of their home, may have dietary requirements or medications to give, need to know when to bring them to a vet.

We are lucky in Sligo to have SOME amazing people running businesses, but there is adverts up everywhere for people who want to do it on the side. Check they are insured, check their are tax compliant- this means they want to run a business and not just making extra €, ask their experience, any courses they have done, ask around friends and family, even better ask your local vet-they will see the results of poor dog minding or dog walking all the time! All dog minders are NOT the same. We all have different policies. Do your research, take your time deciding, ask the questions!! This is not a post to promote my own business, I’m extremely busy thankfully, and will always try to recommend other businesses that I feel are suitable for your dog & that I would send my own dog to if I needed.

NEW CLIENTS - Boarding & House Visits – Limited Availability

I currently have two spaces available for home boarding and cat house visits for new clients.

For boarding, dogs must be:
• Well socialised with other dogs
• Neutered
• Fully vaccinated
• Well-behaved in a home environment

I’m incredibly lucky to have such wonderful clients, many of whom have been with me for years. One downside of that is I become very attached to the dogs I care for. Sadly, over the past year, a few of those beautiful dogs have passed away, which is why these spaces have become available.

I continue to care for several older dogs, so it’s important that any new dogs fit in well and mix calmly with the others in my care. My hope is that the next dogs who join me will also be part of my life for many years to come.

If you’re interested, please send me a PM with your dates, and I’ll get back to you to confirm availability. Please note that many weekends and weeks are already fully booked between now and September.

So important to keep your dogs on leads in the countryside when around sheep. Sheep are in lamb at the moment, some have lambs at foot. Dogs in a field worrying sheep, chasing them, cornering them can cause a sheep to abort her lamb. It is not fair to the sheep or to your dog to allow this to happen. Dogs can be shot if worrying sheep. They can also be taken by the dog warden. You will be liable for injuries caused and any losses. Above anything else, it is not fair to cause this stress on another animal. So please be mindful, dogs will be dogs, whether it be a German Shepard or a Yorkshire Terrier.

Please keep your dog on a lead at all times when in the countryside. Even a “good” dog can cause serious harm around sheep.

A dog doesn’t need to bite to cause harm.

✅Chasing can cause pregnant ewes to miscarry
✅Ewes may panic, collapse, or die from stress
✅Lambs can be separated from their mothers and die from exposure or starvation

A dog that only chases can still kill lambs.

Sleep well beautiful Lilly 💔 Dumped under a bush in Rathcormack with her sister, skin & bone, they wernt expected to survive. I picked them up from the person who found them & I remember calling mark who was on a night out, he laughed as it was a regular occurrence me rescuing dogs. I was only meant to foster, but when the rescue was going to put them asleep due to the way they looked, I couldn’t let that happen. Over the years she’s has had numerous health issues after a cruciate surgery wasn’t successful, she’s had MRI scans, spinal taps, medication, but nothing has helped her. She never once complained! Always a tail wagging. Today, we made the horrible decisions to say goodbye to her. Her old body wasn’t able to keep up with her giddy self & it wasn’t fair to keep trying. She got lots of cuddles & fell asleep in her favourite place, in front of fire, wagging that tail until the very end 😔 We are absolutely devastated. She was the sweetest dog, all she ever wanted was love. Sleep tight beautiful girl 😔

Just a quick update to remind you to send on summer holiday dates. I am off myself 17-20th April. Easter is very busy already and so is May. Bank holiday weekends are always in demand so please don’t leave it until the last minute to book in as I just won’t be able to accommodate you if I’m full. Remember all up to date vaccines must be done 3 weeks before boarding ESP Kennel Cough. Thanks again for always keeping me so busy. Kate 💝

Happy Christmas to all my clients. Thank you for all the amazing support throughout the year. It’s been a tough year with losses. Thinking of you all today. Thanks for all the cards and gifts over the last few days, you all have been so generous. Hope you all have a lovely relaxing and peaceful few days with those you love.
