Some have never known the comfort of a loving home, a soft bed, or the feeling of being someone's beloved companion.

When Deel Sighthound Rescue says "yes" to a dog, we're also saying yes to veterinary care, food, kennelling, transport, beds, leads, collars, rehabilitation, and everything needed to give that dog a genuine second chance. ๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ๐Ÿ’š

๐ŸŽซ Every raffle ticket purchased helps us continue saying "yes" when a hound needs us most.

๐ŸŽŸ๏ธ Your ticket could help the next frightened dog arriving into our care.

๐ŸŽซ Your ticket could help fund life-saving veterinary treatment.

๐Ÿ’–๐Ÿพ Judy Love โ€“ A Girl You'll Never Forget ๐Ÿพ๐Ÿ’–

Some dogs leave pawprints on your heart... and then thereโ€™s Judy Love, who practically tap dances all over it! โค๏ธ

From the moment Judy arrived with us, she has been the happiest, sweetest little lurcher you could ever hope to meet. Sheโ€™s not shy, sheโ€™s not jumpy, and she seems to believe that every person and every dog she meets is her new best friend.

Judy used to share a kennel with our lovely Dorothy, and the two girls spent their days playing together, with the occasional well-earned nap in between. In fact, Judy has been helping Dorothy build her confidence simply by being her cheerful, carefree self. She's the kind of friend we all wish we had.

And speaking of cheerful... when Judy went for her vet visit before travelling to the UK, she caused quite the stir! The staff couldn't stop laughing because nobody had ever seen a dog so delighted to be at the vets. While most dogs are plotting their escape, Judy was treating it like an all-inclusive holiday. ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿถ

Since arriving in the UK, she's already had the chance to zoom around a huge indoor arena and absolutely loved every second of it. She's a pure bundle of energy, happiness, and enthusiasm wrapped up in one beautiful little lurcher package.

But don't let those zoomies fool youโ€”Judy is also a world-class cuddle bug. She has a huge heart and an endless supply of love to give. Whether she's racing around having fun or curled up beside you for snuggles, she makes every day brighter just by being herself.

As Judy begins her exciting new adventure, we wish her all the happiness in the world. She truly is a little gem, a one-of-a-kind girl, and without a doubt, one of those dogs you'll never forget.

Good luck, Judy Love. We already miss your happy face, your wagging tail, and your joyful spirit.
Go and charm everyone you meetโ€”you've been practising for this your whole life. โค๏ธ๐Ÿพโœจ

These figures are not just shocking โ€” they are an indictment of an industry that continues to breed thousands upon thousands of dogs while failing to answer the most fundamental question: what happens to them when they are no longer useful?

Nearly 6,000 greyhounds born in 2021 and 2022 are recorded as dead after leaving racing. Let that sink in. These were not elderly dogs reaching the end of long, happy lives. Many were between just three and a half and five and a half years old โ€” animals who should have had many years ahead of them. Greyhounds commonly live between 10 and 14 years.

The statistics are staggering. Of the greyhounds from these two years who remained in Ireland after racing and were not exported, an astonishing 63% are recorded as deceased. For the 2022 cohort, the figure rises to an appalling 74%.

Where is the outrage? Where are the urgent investigations? Where are the demands for transparency?

Every one of these dogs was bred deliberately into existence by an industry that profits from their lives. Yet when thousands disappear into mortality statistics before reaching middle age, we are told little about how they died, why they died, or whether their deaths were preventable.

These figures expose the brutal reality behind the glossy marketing, the welfare slogans and the endless assurances that greyhound welfare is the industryโ€™s top priority. If welfare were truly the priority, we would not be looking at almost 6,000 dead dogs from just two breeding years.

The uncomfortable truth is that these are not numbers. They were living, breathing animals. Dogs who felt fear, joy, pain and affection. Dogs who trusted the humans responsible for them. Dogs whose lives mattered.

The question now is not whether there should be scrutiny of the greyhound industry. The question is why it has taken figures this horrific for that scrutiny to intensify.

Until there is full transparency, independent oversight and accountability for every greyhound bred into the system, these statistics will stand as a damning reminder of an industry that continues to produce far more dogs than it can ever credibly claim to protect.

Nearly 6,000 dead greyhounds, thatโ€™s not a statistic thatโ€™s a scandal and we the tax payers are keeping it afloat.

A total of 11,618 greyhounds were born in 2021, while 10,845 dogs were born in 2022.

โŒ Parteen Greyhounds Trialled today at Limerick Stadium โŒ

Another week, another shocking revelation from Greyhound Racing Ireland.

We were told that the greyhounds removed from the shed in Parteen were being prepared for rehoming. We were told they were safe. We were told they were being looked after. Yet when legitimate questions were repeatedly asked about where these dogs were being kept and requests were made for verification of their welfare, those questions were ignored.

Then it transpired that the dogs were not heading for loving homes. They were not destined for sofas, family life. They were handed straight back to their owners.

And today, three of those very same dogs โ€” Shanakyle Sally, Shanakyle Valley and Shanakyle Turbo โ€” reportedly trialled in Limerick.

So much for rehoming.

These dogs have been taken out of the frying pan and thrown straight back into the fire. No fresh start. No second chance. No freedom. Just back to the same system, back to the same routine, back to the shed and back to the grind.

Every week it seems Greyhound Racing Ireland finds a new low, but this episode is particularly disgraceful because it raises serious questions about honesty, transparency and accountability. If dogs were returned to their owners, why were the public led to believe they were being prepared for rehoming? Why were direct questions ignored? Why was there such secrecy surrounding their whereabouts?

The answer appears obvious.

The welfare of these dogs continues to come a distant second to protecting an industry. Time and again, greyhounds are treated not as sentient, gentle animals but as commodities โ€” assets to be used, traded and discarded when convenient.

This is what happens when an industry is allowed to regulate itself. It can make its own rules, mark its own homework and tell the public whatever story suits the moment.

And while all of this is happening, taxpayers continue to fund it.

We are told there isnโ€™t enough money to tackle homelessness. There isnโ€™t enough money for carers. There isnโ€™t enough money for children with additional needs. There isnโ€™t enough money to reduce endless hospital waiting lists. Yet year after year, millions of euro are handed to the greyhound industry with little challenge and even less scrutiny.

Enough is enough.

The public deserves answers. The dogs deserve better. The funding must end. The self-regulation must end. And the industry that continues to exploit, injure and kill dogs for entertainment and gambling must finally be brought to an end.

No more excuses. No more spin. No more lies.

In 2022 renewable energy company Ecotricity released undercover footage obtained from the Carmathenshire Hunt kennels. This footage shows huntsman Will Pinkney shooting hounds in the head before throwing their bodies into bins.

In the background, other hounds can be heard howling and during the video one hound can be seen looking up at Pinkney as he shoots them in the head. When asked by South Wales Hunt Sabs about how many hounds he 'replaces' each season, Pinkney replied by saying "I tend to have about half a dozen a year, to be honest."

This is the truth about 'trail hunting.' Hounds are seen as no more than expendable tools. And now hunts are exploiting them further by using the nations love of dogs to try and cling onto their disgusting 'pastime.'

Hunts don't care about their hounds any more than they care about following the law. This cycle of abuse and violence must end and you can be a part of the change https://www.huntsabs.org.uk/ha-campaign/have-your-say/
