Great to see young farmers, great write up on Evan & Kyle Walsh.

“You don’t hear many 25-year-olds say this anymore…”

“Farming’s our future. We’ve no intention of walking away.”

In the hills above Ballintra, Donegal, Evan Walsh and his brother Kyle are up at all hours lambing, calving, reseeding, dosing, and driving the family farm forward. Pedigree ewes, suckler cows, a butcher shop connection – the lot.

He’s just 25. His brother’s 21. They’ve Green Certs, good stock, and a serious work ethic.

But Evan’s not naive. He knows how few lads his age are sticking with it. Land is scarce, costs are climbing, and plenty of their friends have gone elsewhere.

Still, he’s confident. And not just for himself.

He reckons the next generation can make a future of it – but only if they’re backed properly, heard fairly, and not left holding the shovel while the decisions are made elsewhere.

He’s already part of a new sheep initiative with Kepak, and he’s not shy about calling things as he sees them.

What keeps him hopeful? And what would make more young people stick around?
