【夏日高溫警報：寵物中暑預防、應急處理與高風險品種】
怎樣預防中暑？
· 避免在太陽猛烈/高溫時段外出散步。
· 室內保持通風，必要時開冷氣或電扇。
· 隨時提供新鮮飲水，外出攜帶隨身水壺。
· 絕對不可將寵物留置於車內或陽台。
· 使用涼墊、降溫背心輔助散熱。
中暑後的應急處理（步驟非常重要）
· 立即移至陰涼通風或冷氣房。
· 用涼水（非冰水）淋濕身體，特別是腹部、腋下、腳掌。
· 用風扇吹拂加速散熱，不要用冰塊或冰水，以免血管收縮反而不利散熱。
· 量測體溫：若超過39.5°C需積極降溫，降到39°C左右即停止，避免低體溫。
· 同時立即送往動物醫院，途中持續降溫。
什麼樣的寵物容易中暑？
· 短鼻犬種：法鬥、巴哥、波士頓㹴、英鬥等，因呼吸道結構散熱困難。
· 長毛或厚毛品種：如哈士奇、黃金獵犬、鬆獅犬。
· 年老或肥胖寵物：心肺功能較差，體溫調節能力弱。
· 患有心臟病或呼吸道疾病者。
· 幼犬、幼貓：體溫調節中樞尚未發育完全。

How to Prevent Heatstroke
· Avoid walks during periods of intense sun or high temperatures.
· Keep indoor areas well-ventilated; use air conditioning or fans if needed.
· Provide fresh water at all times. Carry a portable water bottle when going out.
· Never leave pets in a parked car or on an enclosed balcony.
· Use cooling mats or cooling vests to help with heat dissipation.
Emergency First Aid for Heatstroke (Follow in order)
· Move the pet immediately to a cool, shaded, or air-conditioned area.
· Wet the body with cool (not icy) water, especially the belly, armpits, and paws.
· Use a fan to promote heat loss. Do NOT use ice or ice-cold water, as it causes vasoconstriction and traps heat inside.
· Monitor temperature: if above 39.5°C (103°F), cool actively. Stop when temperature drops to around 39°C (102°F) to avoid hypothermia.
· Transport to a vet immediately, continuing cooling measures on the way.
Which Pets Are at Higher Risk?
· Brachycephalic (flat-faced) breeds: French bulldogs, pugs, Boston terriers, English bulldogs – their airway structure limits heat dissipation.
· Long-haired or thick-coated breeds: Huskies, golden retrievers, chow chows.
· Senior or obese pets: weaker cardiovascular function and thermoregulation.
· Pets with heart disease or respiratory disorders.
· Puppies and kittens: their thermoregulatory system is not fully developed.
Prevention is always better than treatment. A little extra care can help your pets stay safe through the hot summer.
