Trip of a lifetime in the Western Arctic.

We’re standing on Archimedes Ridge, looking down into the valley beside us - right where the Western Arctic caribou herd moves through. Intersecting with this herd was the central goal of our expedition, and we’ve done it.
We’ve already seen hundreds, if not thousands, of caribou moving through this range - including more babies and young than we can count. We’re camped beside one of their crossing points for a couple of days, and it’s hard to describe just how incredible it is to see and hear so many animals together in a place like this.
This is exactly why we came here at this time, and it’s amazing to be standing in the middle of it. The whole place is stunning. The river has treated us well, the Pakboats are doing their job, and I’m very, very happy to be here.
It’s also a good reminder that the world is still full of wonders if we’re willing to go looking for them - and stop long enough to appreciate them when we find them. I love animals, and being surrounded by caribou, peregrines, marmots, gulls, geese, terns, and so much more has been incredibly rewarding.
This spot, this timing, this herd… I couldn’t ask for much more.
