I’m happy to announce that I’ll be at the CANIS Conference this year.

For those who don’t know it, CANIS (Canine Advocacy, Networking, Innovation, and Science) brings together trainers, behaviour professionals, vets, shelter teams, and rescue workers for a few days focused on doing this work better.

It’s one of those events where science and real world experience actually meet… and that’s where progress happens. 🙂

I’m looking forward to the conversations, the learning, and connecting with people who are serious about raising the standard of care for dogs.

More details to come… but if you’re planning to be there, let me know. 👇

So it turns out… I like karaoke.

Especially when it’s for a good cause. 🙂

At the 2026 VFHS Annual Conference, I took part in the “Sing Your Balls Off” karaoke fundraiser… raising money for spay and neuter programs.

Ended up winning $2,500 and chose to donate it to Compassion Unleashed and Blue Ridge Animal Welfare League.

A lot of good people doing important work in this field. Glad to support it.

Thanks to Virginia Federation of Humane Societies for having me and putting on a great event.

Not the best of photos, but that is undoubtedly me singing karaoke! 🎤

Our friends at ASAR Training and Response are at the National REP Conference this week… and they’ve got our Animal Rescue Bags with them. 🙂

Always good to see our gear out and about, especially in the hands of people doing this kind of work.

These bags are designed for disaster responders and emergency services responders to have a safe, foldable option for animal rescue and decontamination during emergencies when other types of carriers are not available.

The National REP helps to ensure responders are ready in the event of any type of radiological incident. We all hope there is never an incident of that kind, but we are glad to support those to train to be ready.

We all hope those situations never happen... but being prepared is the job.

Most people don’t start out trying to do it the wrong way.

They care. They show up. They put the effort in. I see it time and time again… but the thing is… effort alone doesn’t reduce risk.

And it doesn’t always reduce stress… for you or the animal.

What actually makes the difference is how the work is done.

👉 The tools you’re using.

👉 The handling approach.

👉 The decisions made in the moment.

👉 That’s where things start to change.

If you’re looking to improve safety, reduce stress, and feel more in control of those situations, I can help.

Start with a conversation. 30–45 minutes, no cost.

Coming to the end of Dog Bite Prevention Week. 🙂

But this isn’t something that starts and stops with a campaign... it’s everyday work.

Understanding dogs better... recognizing the early signs.

Giving them space when they need it.

Handling situations with skill, not assumption.

Because bites don’t come out of nowhere.

They’re usually the end of a chain of missed signals.

And the more we learn to see those signals, the more we can prevent the outcome.

This week is a reminder... that any dog can bite.

That most bites are preventable... and that better knowledge protects everyone involved.

If there’s one thing to take away, it’s this: preparation matters.

Whether that’s education, better handling skills, or tools like muzzle training, it all plays a role in keeping dogs and people safe.

We’ll keep doing the work. 🙂

It’s a significant week in my world.

Not only is it Dog Bite Prevention Week… it’s also Animal Control Officer Appreciation Week… a time to spotlight, for sure.

This week is about recognising the people working in animal control. The ones out there every day, handling the calls most people never see… making tough decisions, managing risk, and doing their best for both animals and the community.

We recently built a batch of custom Rescue Pro leashes for the team at Fairfax County Animal Services. They ordered them, we made them, and added custom tags (see photo).

To everyone working in animal control… we see you, and we appreciate what you do - thank you! 🙂

This week is Dog Bite Prevention Week, and it’s an important one.

In this industry, this is something we see and think about every single day. But this conversation isn’t just for animal professionals.

A lot of people believe bites only happen because a dog is “bad.”

That’s not how it works. Any dog can bite.

Fear. Pain. Stress. Confusion. Being pushed past their limits. These are normal responses to overwhelming situations, and they can happen to any dog, in any home.

The difference is understanding.

In animal care, we spend a lot of time learning how to read dogs, recognize early warning signs, and handle situations safely. Because most bites are preventable when you know what to look for. (but not always).

And one of the most practical tools we have? Muzzle training.

Not as a label. Not as a last resort. But as a normal, responsible skill for any dog. Just in case.

We carry a full range of The Muzzle Movement muzzles, available through our site and shipping directly from the US. They’re designed to give dogs proper pant space, comfort, and safety when it matters most.

Better understanding leads to better outcomes, for dogs and for the people around them.

Some work happens quietly and some work deserves to be seen.

We’ve just sent 20 professional leashes out to support rescue teams working along the front lines in eastern Ukraine.

These teams are pulling animals out of active conflict zones and getting them safely into Europe. It’s dangerous, exhausting, and incredibly important work.

This isn’t the first time we’ve supported efforts like this… and it won’t be the last.

The gear we sent includes our RescuePro and the newly updated RescuePro Harness Leash. Built for situations exactly like this. When control, safety, and reliability matter most.

I truly believe that when you’re working in high risk environments, your equipment can’t be a weak point.

Huge respect to the teams on the ground doing the hard work every day.

We’re proud to stand behind you.

With thanks to @‌kristi_rescue and @‌12_guards
