Using Mill Cottage Pet Crematorium services - What to expect step 3 πŸ’œ

The family have said goodbye, their loving pet ready for their final journey.
Step 3 starts with their cremation, all individual. Once this is complete, everything cooled, the ashes are added to the chosen items requested by families. From scatter tubes, to urns to separate ashes for family members and for jewellery and planting.
The ashes are then placed into the pets pre prepared, personal bags, all items checked, photos taken if needed. These photos allow other pet families to choose items and see what’s available and how they look.
The final items to add to the bag are gestures, personalised or heartfelt offerings to help comfort you, along with information you may want to share.
Follow us for step 4 tomorrow πŸ’œ

Using Mill Cottage Pet Crematorium services - what to expect
Step 2 - πŸ’œ

At the end of step 1, pet families have said their final goodbye in the reception room and headed home.
We then take their loving pet into our cremation room next door. Here they are given an individual number that is unique to them, this creates a file with all their cremation information (this is used for defra when we have our annual check).
There are four areas where each pets name is written, the signed information from a family, all our information for engraving, a board with each pets location on and a board with completion of each step.
In the cremation area, I take a lock of hair and do paw and nose prints, depending on what was requested by the pet family.
Each pet is cared for one at a time, and everything personally and individually, just as you’d find in a good funeral home.
Each pet is moved carefully and with dignity and often spoken to softly.
They then await their final journey, all heading off in a set order for a set reason and all individually.

An appropriate sized bag is selected, logo added, personal items added all personally labelled and taken back into the reception room to await the next step.
Follow us through to Tuesday for step 3 πŸ’œ

Using Mill Cottage Pet Crematorium services- What to expect πŸ’œ

STEP 1 - First communication is often via phone call, text, WhatsApp or email. Once an appointment has been arranged. You’ll arrive to park outside our reception room, where we welcome you in with your pet.
We allocate enough time so each pet family has all they need.
While in the reception room, your pet will lay in either their bed or carrier or in one of ours.
A small amount of paperwork is to go through, name, address, spellings and information for what you’d like.
Paw prints, lock of hair, separate ashes for jewellery or seed balls, planting etc , then importantly what you’d like your pets ashes to be placed in.
At this point we will inform you what day your pet will be cremated and that we will text you once this has taken place.
Finally at this step, we will ask if you’d like some alone time with your pet, to say your final goodbye in peace before you leave πŸ’œ

At Mill Cottage Pet Crematorium we love to keep our pet families and followers updated on how and why we do things the way we do.
We are going to put this into four steps, so people know what to expect when choosing our services.

How to cope with pet loss - Part 5 of 5 πŸ’œ

There are truly so many examples I could show you of beautiful memory keepsakes, that both myself and my pet families have to help with the loss of our pets.

What can a memory item do - well they can soothe the shock, honour the story and ease the fear of forgetting, among many other comforts.

If anyone would like ideas and to see what others have, then please feel free to share your photos in the comments.
These beautiful items were hand painted by Empire and Otherness for Ronnie’s owner to treasure.
When I met Ronnie’s pet mum, she handed me a beautiful hand painted bottle to which we added some of Ronnie’s fur for a keepsake.
We were delighted to receive pictures of these items in memory of Ronnie , so that we can share with others πŸ’œ
