☀️ Tommy the golden doodle puppy was visiting our Binfield practice today and found the perfect shady spot in our garden to keep cool! 🐾💛
(P.S. Our Wokingham practice has its own garden too – ideal for a garden consult!)

With the current heatwave 🌡️ in full swing, it’s so important to keep a close eye on our furry friends.

Did you know that when it’s just 25°C outside, pavement temperatures can soar to over 50°C? 🔥 If it’s too hot for your hand, it’s too hot for their paws.

Watch out for signs of heatstroke – like excessive panting, drooling, wobbliness, or bright red gums – and make sure they’ve always got access to shade and water. If you’re ever unsure, give us a call.

Keep cool, stay safe, and be more like Tommy! ☂️🐶💦

🌟 Meet Wilson, our pint‑sized prince of perseverance! 🐱🧡

🎬 Video: Tiny Wilson is on the move — and is very wobbly! That’s because he was born with cerebellar hypoplasia (CH), a non‑painful, non‑progressive condition that affects balance and coordination.

In the second half of the video you can see Wilson leaping (well, wobble‑leaping!) around the playroom with his sister. Less wobble, more mischief — proof that CH cats learn their own special ways to thrive. 💪✨

Check out the photo of Wilson from yesterday when he came in for his kitten vaccinations with Vet Gemma, who couldn’t resist a quick candid snap. Look at that determined little face! 🩺🥰

Did you know?
🧡Cerebellar Hypoplasia doesn’t hurt and usually doesn’t get worse over time.
🧡Most kittens live long, happy lives — they just need safe spaces, low food bowls, and lots of encouragement.
🧡Their wobble is unique but their need for love is exactly the same.

🌞 The heat is well and truly turning itself up to max this week and our furry friends are feeling it too! 🐶🐱

Remember to keep pets cool with plenty of shade, fresh water, and no walkies during the hottest part of the day. 🧊💦

We’d love to see how your pets are beating the heat — comment below with your best cool cat or chilled-out pup photos! 📸⬇️

🌞26 miles. One marathon. One very hot weekend.🔥

This weekend, some of our incredible Mulberry House Vets team members are taking on the Cancer Research UK Big Hike — all 26 miles of it — in the middle of a heatwave! 🥵

They're swapping scrubs for sun cream, and stethoscopes for hiking boots, all to raise money for life-saving cancer research. 💪🎗️

We’re so proud of them for taking on this huge challenge (and braving the blisters!) in support of such an important cause. Every step they take helps fund groundbreaking research to help more people survive cancer. 💛

🌿 You can sponsor our brave hikers here: https://fundraise.cancerresearchuk.org/team/mulberry-house-vets/members

Let’s cheer them on – and maybe send some extra plasters and electrolytes too! 🥾💦

☀️ Hot Weather Reminder: Stay Heatstroke Aware! 🐶❗

We’re loving the sunshine at the moment – but it’s the perfect time to spread awareness of heatstroke, a serious and potentially fatal condition that can affect dogs very quickly in warm weather.

🌡️ Heatstroke occurs when a dog’s body temperature rises above 40°C and they’re unable to cool down. It can cause seizures, organ failure, internal bleeding, and sadly even death. The faster they are cooled down, the better their chances of recovery.

Most at-risk dogs include:
🐾 Flat-faced breeds (like Pugs, Bulldogs)
🐾 Puppies and senior dogs
🐾 Giant breeds
🐾 Dogs with thick coats

What to look out for:
❗ Excessive panting, drooling, or foaming
❗ Vomiting or diarrhoea
❗ Weakness, shaking, confusion, or collapse
❗ Red gums
❗ Seizures

If you suspect heatstroke:
✅ Move your dog to a cool, shaded area or indoors
✅ Start cooling them immediately — pour cool (not icy) water over them, lie them on a cold wet towel, or gently submerge their body in water (not the head) if they’re calm
✅ Place a wrapped ice pack between their thighs
🚫 Avoid covering with wet towels – this can trap heat
📞 Call your vet right away

Preventing heatstroke:
✔ Walk only in the early morning or evening
✔ Check the pavement temp with your hand
✔ Provide constant access to water and shade
✔ Avoid car travel unless essential
✔ Keep long coats trimmed
🚗 Never leave your dog in a parked car – even for a few minutes

Remember: a dog has never died from missing a walk, but they can die from heatstroke. If in doubt, skip the walk and enjoy a shady cuddle indoors instead!

🐾 Meet Baloo, our handsome German Shepherd friend who has well and truly discovered Berkshires worst kept secret at Mulberry House Vets… our famous gravy bone jar! 😍🦴

Baloo is a regular visitor and makes a beeline straight for reception – not for the cuddles (though he loves those too!) – but for the delicious treat jar that’s become the stuff of legend around here. With 10kg boxes of gravy bones arriving monthly, we’re pretty sure our reception team are just here to serve snacks at this point! 😂

Whether you’re here for a quick weigh-in or a post op check, every good boy and girl deserves a little treat – and Baloo would very much agree! 💛

📸See Baloo enjoying his turn at the magical biscuit jar👀

🌸🐾 Patchi in the Petals! 🐾🌸

Patchi was in for a garden consultation yesterday… but she had her own ideas about what she wanted to do! 👀🌼

While our vet chatted with her humans, Patchi took full advantage of the sunshine and set off on a nosy around our garden — and where did she end up? Right in the middle of the flower bed, of course! 😅💐

We love how our garden consults help nervous or curious patients feel more relaxed — and clearly Patchi felt very at home! 💚🐶

🌈 World Pet Memorial Day 🐾

Today, on World Pet Memorial Day, we take a moment to remember the beloved pets who are no longer by our sides - but will always live on with special memories in our hearts. 💜

Whether they join us on our journey through life for years or just a short while, the paw prints they leave behind are permanent. From loyal old dogs to mischievous kittens, guinea pigs with big personalities and everything in between, every pet becomes family - and saying goodbye is never easy.

We know how deeply our clients love their animals and we feel honoured to have shared so many special stories, final hugs and tearful goodbyes.

If you would like to share a memory or a photo of a pet you are remembering today, we’d love to see them in the comments.
Let’s celebrate their lives together. 🕊️

With love,
The team at Mulberry House Vets 💙

The Mulberry Dream

Alex, Louise, Kate and Sharon have worked in the veterinary industry for over 60 years and been colleagues and friends for a long time. Over numerous coffees and conversations, we realised our dream was the same: to open a veterinary practice where we could enjoy providing exceptional quality care, combined with the really personal touch we feel is so important when caring for your pets! Come and have a Mulberry Welcome tour and meet us if you want to know more.......
