The Wonky Donkey Community Farm CIC Supporting farming in an educational way and giving those Wonky ones a chance at life 🙂

We are a farm animal sanctuary, we take in donkeys, ponies, sheep, goats, alpacas, chickens, ponies etc that people can no longer look after, may have been mistreated, neglected, orphaned etc. We work with these animals to bring them out of their shells into confident, friendly, loveable creatures that people can enjoy. We offer our animals as a therapy to lots of groups from disabled, people with

mental health issues, people with dementia, vulnerable children...the list is endless. We find that people can really relate to these animals, especially if they have a similar difficult background. Animals listen but don't judge and this in itself can be so therapeutic for someone who doesn't want to off load to a person. All our animals have their own story and we find that they can help so many people in different ways. We want to not just take in these animals but offer them to our local community to enjoy aswell 🙂

Never thought I’d reach the age where I’d willingly write a Facebook essay about my bowel movements… but life’s a bit S**T like that 💩😂

A while back I started noticing blood in my stools. At first I convinced myself it was “probably nothing” because apparently my medical strategy is the same as turning the radio up when the car makes a weird noise.

But deep down I knew something wasn’t right. There’s only so many times you can stare into the toilet bowl looking like forensics investigating a murder scene before accepting maybe you should see a doctor.

So off I went, where I got asked questions no grown adult ever wants to answer before lunch: “How often are you going?” “What did it look like?” “Any mucus?” Honestly by the end of it I felt like I should’ve brought photos and a PowerPoint presentation titled: “My Arse: A Timeline.”

Then came the phrase: “We need to rule out bowel cancer.”

Now that hits you hard. One minute you’re casually living life, the next you’re sat there thinking: “Brilliant. I ignored internal bleeding because I didn’t want to talk about poo.”

So then came the colonoscopy.

And let me tell you something right now: The actual camera bit? That's the easy bit.... The prep drink beforehand? Straight from the depths of hell.

That stuff doesn’t “clear you out”. It turns your body into a high-pressure fire hose.

Within about 45 minutes I was sprinting to the toilet so often I considered installing a seatbelt. Every rumble in my stomach felt like an emergency alert. At one point I sneezed and genuinely feared for my future.

The toilet and I became emotionally codependent. 🚽😂

And the noises… dear God. It sounded like someone emptying a bucket of gravy into a washing machine.

I'm sure I lost 14 stone in a day.

Thankfully after all the tests, it turned out to be Ulcerative Colitis instead of cancer. For anyone who doesn’t know, Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn’s disease are forms of IBD — basically your immune system waking up one day and deciding your intestines are the enemy.

And although I joke, it genuinely can be brutal. The pain, fatigue, urgency and flare-ups can completely take over your life. You become weirdly aware of every public toilet within a 10-mile radius. I now judge pubs less on atmosphere and more on toilet accessibility and wiping paper quality.

But genuinely, the reason I’m sharing this is because so many people ignore symptoms because they’re embarrassed. Blood in your stool isn’t “normal”. Changes in bowel habits aren’t something to just hope away.

Please go get checked if something feels wrong.

Because trust me: A slightly awkward conversation and a camera up your backside is a LOT better than ignoring something serious.

Also, massive respect to my amazing wife Emma for putting up with my complaining and for once again being my absolute rock.

And of course big respect and thanks to the NHS staff who do this every day without laughing at terrified adults clutching their hospital gowns while trying not to accidentally s**t themselves in paper shorts 😂❤️
