The reality of dog boarding… 🐾❤️
People often see the happy photos, the zoomies, the cuddles and the adventures. But there’s so much more that happens behind the scenes.
It all starts with that very first enquiry.
Hours are spent chatting to families, answering questions and making sure we’re the right fit. Every boarding provider is different, and because we’re quite unique in how we care for our guests, it’s important that owners understand exactly how we do things. Trust starts long before a dog walks through our gate.
Then comes the paperwork. Not the glamorous part, but one of the most important. Every document, every vaccination record, every emergency contact and every process helps us remain fully compliant with our council licence and, most importantly, keeps every dog safe.
Then it’s time to arrange meet and greets, trial days and trial nights.
These are probably the hardest part.
Imagine being a little dog who’s suddenly left with complete strangers. New smells. New noises. New routines. New dogs. We have to earn their trust, learn what makes them feel safe, understand what they love, what worries them and how they communicate. At the same time, we’re building trust with their humans too, reassuring them that their best friend is in safe hands.
Then comes the trial night.
Will they settle?
Will they eat?
Will they sleep?
Do they need extra reassurance?
Every dog is different, and every one deserves the time and patience to settle in at their own pace.
And then… the holidays begin.
People often think it’s just cuddles and playing all day.
The reality?
Some dogs have what we call a little “three-day wobble”. Some get homesick halfway through their stay. Some suddenly decide they don’t fancy their dinner. Some become clingy. Some surprise us completely by doing something they’ve never done before.
And sometimes dogs become poorly or need a trip to the vet. Those moments are stressful because we care about every single one of them as if they were our own.
It’s certainly not all fairy tales.
But then something magical happens…
A nervous dog starts wagging their tail when they see you.
A dog that once hid behind their owner now runs through the gate without looking back.
One who wouldn’t settle now curls up beside you for a nap.
Those are the moments that make every bit of hard work worthwhile.
Not every dog forms an incredibly close bond with us, and that’s absolutely okay. Some simply enjoy their holidays and head home. Others take months to build confidence. And some completely steal a piece of our hearts.
Cora is one of those dogs. ❤️
She’s the sweetest little soul. She adores her toys and insists on sharing them with everyone. If you stop giving her attention, she’ll gently tap you with her paw as if to say, “Excuse me… you’ve forgotten something!”
Sometimes she decides she doesn’t fancy eating, which always has us trying everything to tempt her. Maybe she’d just like her tea warming up a little… maybe she’d like it hand-fed… or maybe she simply enjoys the extra fuss. We’ll probably never know!
People often say they’d love to board dogs for a living.
The truth is, most people leave the industry within their first year because it’s much harder than it looks.
It’s emotionally demanding. It’s physically tiring. It comes with responsibility that never switches off.
But when a dog chooses to trust you… when owners tell you they can finally enjoy their holiday because they know their dog is safe… that’s something truly special.
And that’s exactly why we do it. 🐾❤️
