🎃🐾 Halloween can be great fun for us, but for our dogs it can be a very different experience.
A steady stream of guisers at the door, the doorbell ringing, excited voices outside and people appearing in unusual costumes can all be unsettling, particularly for nervous or sensitive dogs.
A few simple things can help keep your dog calm this Halloween:
🐶 Create a quiet, comfortable space away from the front door
🔔 Consider asking guisers to knock rather than ring the doorbell
📺 Keep the TV or radio on to help mask unfamiliar noises
🦴 Give your dog a favourite toy, chew or treat to keep them occupied
🚪 Keep them safely away from the door when answering it
🎭 Remember, masks and fancy dress can make even familiar people look strange to a dog
Most importantly, let your dog retreat somewhere they feel safe and don't force them to interact with visitors.
Stick to dog-friendly treats around your four-legged friends too:
🎃 Raw pumpkin and unground seeds can cause upset tummies, while the rhind, stem and leaves can cause choking hazards (but cooked pumpkin is a nice treat)
🍫 Keep humans treats, especially chocolate, safely away from your dog
We hope all our four-legged friends have a calm and happy Halloween! 🎃🐾👻
