🦉🌿 Happy International Owl Awareness Day! 🌿🦉

Today we’re celebrating some of the most fascinating birds around — and the incredible role they play in our countryside. 🦉

Here at Totnes Rare Breeds Farm, we love sharing our passion for animals and helping visitors get a little closer to the wonderful wildlife and rare breeds that make our countryside so special. 💚

Owls are truly remarkable creatures, with incredible hearing, amazing eyesight and almost completely silent flight — perfect adaptations for life as a night-time hunter. 🌙

But sadly, owls and many other British species face growing challenges, from habitat loss and changes in land management to declining prey populations.

It’s a great reminder that protecting nature isn’t just about the big things — creating and caring for healthy habitats right here in our own countryside can make a real difference. 🌳🦉

So today, we’re giving a little extra appreciation to these beautiful birds and all the wildlife that calls the South West home. 💚

Our team had such a lovely day at Preston primary school last week at their fate 🪶
And our resident owls, willow (our barn owl) and Ottie (our Northern white faced owl) loved all the attention.
A huge thank you to our hosts, and of course all who attended, who truly made our day!

Whether you missed us or simply can't get enough of us, come down to Totnes Rare Breeds Farm to meet our other residents, including more of our rare native and non native owls, alpacas, reptiles, guinea pigs, rabbits ... and some new faces 🐑
