Here’s Molly celebrating her 12th birthday with a homemade birthday cake from Luton Vets4Pets.

Molly has been visiting the practice since she was a little puppy, so when she was due to spend her 12th birthday with them, they couldn’t resist celebrating. Katherine, Molly's owner, said, “Molly’s part of Luton family, and they’re part of ours. I sent her in for her MOT wearing a birthday girl badge, and next thing I knew I had a video of them all singing happy birthday to her with a homemade cake and card. She didn't want to come home!”

Customer Care Manager Tina, who has been with the practice since it opened 15 years ago, remembers Molly as a puppy. She said, “When Molly first came to us, she was a small bundle of fur weighing 7kg. She's a kind, funny girl who is always so excited to be with us. We all love Molly very much.”

What started as a joyful engagement weekend for owner Georgia, quickly became an emergency when rescue cat Eddie needed urgent surgery at Vets4Pets Bradford Idle due to serious internal injuries.

When Georgia arrived home, she found three-year-old Eddie hiding under the bed, struggling to breathe. She rushed him to her local vets, where they discovered extensive internal damage compressing his lungs. Eddie was immediately taken into emergency surgery, where vet Tamsin and team worked tirelessly to save him.

Now Eddie’s home and on the road to recovery, Georgia can focus on celebrating her engagement. She said, “I feel so grateful to the whole team at Vets for Pets, I can’t express it enough. They were amazing, explaining everything in detail and showing compassion even when I was in hysterics. They’ve been my local vet for years - they’re superheroes.”

Vet Tamsin, who is the locally-based owner of Vets4Pets Bradford Idle, said: “Eddie suffered a significant trauma, likely from something like a road traffic accident. Recovery from such surgery is very difficult, and we are delighted with his excellent progress.”

Three-year-old Ted likes to fall asleep each night with a paw on his new favourite toy - Lilly Leopard.

Owner Tash picked up Lilly Leopard from Pets at Home Chelmsford, and says that she and Ted hit it off straight away. She said, “Ted likes to give Lilly a little wash and occasionally a nibble too. He carries her between his bed and wherever he likes to play during the day. Once he’s in his bed in the evening, I pop Lilly there too, and he falls asleep quite often with a paw or his head on her. It’s funny how they somehow decide which are their favourite toys!"

Vet nurse Shannon from Vets4Pets Lichfield is so passionate about animals that she also fosters pets for a local charity while they wait for their forever homes.

For the past seven years, Shannon has been fostering with Wonky Pets Rescue. Her latest foster is seven-month-old Storm, who regularly visits the practice. Shannon said: “As you can imagine, the team at Lichfield are very animal orientated, and love seeing Storm. Bringing him in helps with his socialisation. Fostering is incredibly rewarding; it’s nice to be able to give them a home environment instead of kennels while they wait for their new home.”

Storm is already reserved, but many other special dogs are waiting for great homes. Tracy from Wonky Pets Rescue appreciates the help of foster carers like Shannon. She said, "As a small but specialist home based rescue it is imperative for us to have dedicated, experienced foster carers like Shannon. The added bonus of her being a RVN means we can rest easy knowing any dog in her care will received the greatest of care. We are so grateful for her help along with all of our other valuable foster homes.”

In an extraordinary case of seriously missing your exit, Oona the puffin became very lost from the usual cliffs by the sea and ended up at Vets for Pets Hereford

It's believed Oona may have travelled as far as 110 miles from Skomer Island or Skokholm, before landing exhausted in the garden of a concerned member of the public, who brought her straight to their local vet. Weak from her adventures and underweight, Oona is being cared for by the team until she’s strong enough to be released back into the wild.

Head Vet Elliot, who is the locally-based owner of Vets for Pets Hereford, said, “We were surprised to say the least. Puffins never venture far inland unless they’re disoriented or have been blown off course. It’s likely she was returning to her nesting site in West Wales and lost her way. It was a full team effort, from diagnosis to feeding and nutrition; everyone brought their expertise to the table. Even though we’ve treated many exotics before including, lynx, meerkats and goshawks, this was our first puffin.”

When a lump on nine-year-old Bella’s leg started to rapidly grow, the team at Preston Capitol Vets4Pets knew it was a sign of something more serious.

Bella’s owners had first noticed the small lump in March and brought her into the practice to have it checked out. Unfortunately, a biopsy revealed it was an aggressive form of cancer, and it was recommended that Bella’s leg be removed to give her the best chance at a full recovery.

Owner Chloe said, “Bella is our family; we couldn’t have asked for a better dog for our children growing up. Every member of the team from reception staff to the vets at Vets for Pets made Bella feel special at every visit. We are so thankful to all the team. She has been so resilient through it all.”

Vet Emily, who performed the surgery, said: “We don’t take big surgeries like this lightly, but Bella’s fantastic owners have kept her in tip-top shape, so we were confident that it would give her the best chance. We couldn’t be prouder of her bravery and recovery — she truly is a superstar!”

Bodhi knows that nothing beats a refreshing drink of water on a hot day - especially when it's in a freezable bowl like this one from Pets at Home.

Ten-month-old Bodhi is a ragdoll, and with his long fur, he can struggle in hot weather. Thankfully, owner Emmer has lots of tricks to keep Bodhi cool. She said, “Along with the freezable bowl from Pets at Home, I’ve also got cool mats all around the house. He loves a Lick-e-lix treat, so I put some in the fridge to keep them nice and cool. Unlike other cats, he loves water and splashing around, so I lay out a tray of water with treats for him. This way, he gets his paws wet, which helps him stay cool.”

Seven-year-old Smudge has passed down his first-ever toy, a Pets at Home kicker, to his new kittens, who now enjoy it just as much as he did.

We asked you to share the first toy you got your pet, and owner Charlie told us about a kicker cat toy he originally got for his cat first cat Smudge seven years ago.

Charlie, who shops at Pets at Home Northampton, said, “The first toy bought for our first kitten, Smudge, was a Pets at Home kicker that was white and fluffy with feathers on one end. Smudge is now seven-year-old and still loves that same toy, as do our four new rescue kittens. We throw it in the air for them to catch and then they roll over and kick it. They also love throwing it around and sneaking up on it to hunt it.”

Three-year-old Milo is eager to show off his latest toy haul from Pets at Home.

Owner Amy, who shops at Pets at Home Handforth, says that “toys are everything to Milo”, so she makes sure that his toy box is always well stocked. She said, “Milo loves a variety of toy, from rope toys, to exploring with snuffle mats and solving burrow toys. He proudly parades around the room to show us when he’s had completed one. His current new favourite is his squeaky rugby ball. When we kick or throw it, he squeaks it non-stop on the way back like it’s part of the game. He’s totally obsessed!”

When Pets at Home customer Alison fractured her ankle, Maysie the Therapy dog. didn't leave her side until her husband arrived home.

Alison had fallen on the garden path while her husband was out walking their other dogs. After running back and forth to the gate, Maysie lay down next to Alison with her head on her leg until he returned. Alison has four rescue border collies and knows how important it is to give them a ‘job’, which is why clever Maisie has volunteered for Therapy Dogs Nationwide since 2018.

Alison said, “Border Collies are extremely intelligent and need a job. They absolutely love to assist you and love praise. Maysie will pick up things on the floor, close doors and empty the washing machine. She’s very good at knowing if someone is not feeling well or upset, and that's what makes her such a good therapy dog. We often visit Pets at Home with our four collie girls as it a great place to practice their socialising, plus they love the occasional treat!”
