Our first leopard gecko babies of the year will be looking for new homes from the end of June! ❤️

⚠️ HEATWAVE WARNING FOR REPTILE OWNERS ⚠️

With temperatures climbing this week, please remember that reptiles can VERY quickly overheat, even species that love warmth. A vivarium can turn from “perfect basking spot” to “tiny dragon oven” faster than you think 🥵

Here are a few important things to check:

☀️ Keep vivariums out of direct sunlight
🌡️ Monitor temperatures closely with reliable thermometers
💨 Make sure there is good airflow and ventilation
💧 Provide fresh water at all times and mist species that require humidity
🧊 Use fans in the room if needed, but never point directly at the animal
🔥 Turn off or reduce extra heat sources if enclosure temps are already too high
🚫 Never leave travel tubs or small enclosures in hot cars or conservatories

Signs of overheating can include:
❗ Gaping mouth
❗ Lethargy
❗ Loss of balance
❗ Frantic glass surfing
❗ Unresponsiveness

If your reptile becomes too hot:
➡️ Move them somewhere cooler immediately
➡️ Offer fresh water
➡️ Gradually reduce temperatures
➡️ Contact an exotic vet if symptoms continue

Please don’t assume “they’re reptiles so they love heat”. In the wild they can move away from extreme temperatures… in a vivarium they rely on US to keep conditions safe ❤️

🐾 Why We Recommend Nature’s Deli Over Burns 🥩🌿

We often get asked why we tend to recommend Nature’s Deli more often than Burns, so here’s our honest explanation 👇

Burns absolutely has its place, especially for dogs with very sensitive stomachs or those needing a low fat, gentle diet. But for the average healthy dog, we personally prefer the ingredient profile in Nature’s Deli.

Why? 🐶

🥩 Higher meat content
Dogs are naturally designed to thrive on protein-rich diets, and Nature’s Deli contains significantly more meat and animal protein compared to Burns.

🌾 Lower filler ingredients
Burns recipes are heavily rice-based, with brown rice making up a very large percentage of the food. Nature’s Deli focuses more on meat, sweet potato and nutrient-rich ingredients instead.

💪 Better protein levels
Higher protein can help support:
✔ muscle maintenance
✔ energy levels
✔ healthy skin & coat
✔ overall condition

😋 More palatable for fussy dogs
A lot of dogs simply find Nature’s Deli more appealing and easier to stay interested in long term.

🌿 Grain free options
For owners wanting to avoid grains or for dogs that do better without them, Nature’s Deli offers more suitable options.

That said… every dog is different.
We would still recommend Burns for certain dogs with medical needs, sensitivities or those needing a very bland and gentle diet.

At the end of the day, we don’t believe in “one food fits all”. We recommend what we genuinely feel gives most healthy dogs the best balance of nutrition, quality ingredients and enjoyment at mealtimes 🐾

🌿 Leopard geckos are one of the most misunderstood reptiles when it comes to enclosure setups.

For years people have been told they belong in a “desert tank” with nothing but sand, rocks and a plastic hide. But in the wild, leopard geckos are actually found in dry grasslands, rocky scrublands and woodland edge environments, not endless dunes like a tiny scaly camel 🦎🏜️

A good leopard gecko enclosure should have:
🍂 Natural textures and clutter
🌱 Cork bark, branches and leaf litter
🪨 Rocky hides and humid areas
🌾 A variety of substrates to encourage natural behaviours
🌡️ Correct heating and humidity gradients

They thrive when they can dig, climb, explore and feel secure. A bare tank may be easier to clean, but a naturalistic woodland style setup allows them to behave like actual geckos instead of decorative fridge magnets with legs.

The reptile world is always evolving and improving, and that’s a good thing. Better knowledge means better welfare 💚

This is Angus, he was my first rescue, when he had him he’d been kept in a tank with no heat or UVB, he couldn’t eat solid food and was covered in stuck shed. It’s taken me a year to rehabilitate him but now apart from his MBD he’s healthy, eating and gaining weight nicely
