Happy World Parrot Day 🦜❤️💙

We have 2 amazing parrots here at the zoo, ❤️💚Chico the Green-winged macaw
💙💛 Captain the Blue and gold macaw

You can find them in our rainforest room, or outside exploring above the Mara enclosure ❤️

They love a chat, and may even talk back to you, or show you their dance moves! 🕺

Come down to the zoo and say ‘hello’ to our lovely parrots ❤️

💔 Sad news from the Exotic Zoo team 💔

It’s never easy to lose an animal at a zoo, who you might see every day for more years than you can remember.
The animals we care for are more than just animals, they feel like a member of the family.
You care for them through so many stages of their lives and sometimes this can be decades!

Today we had to say goodbye to Dillon our amazing and well known 6 banded armadillo.
At 19 years of age Dillon and her sister Doris have started to slow down as they surpass their life expectancy even for a zoo armadillo.
They have been on medication for arthritis for a while now but over the past week Dillon has been coming out less and less. After a visit from the vets a few days ago one last course of meds was prescribed to see if it would help. But after coming out for one last breakfast this morning she curled back up in her bed and fell asleep for the last time.
We are happy she died peacefully in her sleep and we thank her for a colourful life as a true rainforest and wildlife ambassador.
She has made so many people smile and want to learn more about armadillos and their natural habitat, such an unusual animal always caught peoples attention and their hearts.

Dillon has litterally seen Exotic Zoo through every second of its existence! She walked through the doors on day one! What a journey it’s been! (She even has a Blue Peter badge!)

Thank you Dillon you will be missed ❤️

It’s the last weekend of half term already! 😱

Half term has been amazing so far, and we’re being so lucky with the weather! The weekend is supposed to be nice, but a little cooler, so perfect for a zoo day out! ☀️😎
