Established in 1939 by William Briers in Tamworth, Staffordshire, the Briers company has built an enviable reputation for offering its customers reliable, competitively priced services for waste management and recycling. By working closely with our customers, we are able to meet or exceed expectations for supplying solutions for their various waste streams that not only meet best environmental pra

ctice but are also sustainable. Our company philosophy has won us many local and national awards by ensuring our own environmental impact is reduced to a minimum whilst increasing recycling and reducing waste sent to landfill. To demonstrate our commitment to protect the environment for future generations, we have established educational links with schools and created our own wildlife habitat where we have built two lakes and planted over 2000 native trees.

Earth Day 2026 ♻️

Today, 22nd April 2026 is Earth Day and marks the 56th anniversary of this global movement.

The official theme for 2026 is "Our Power, Our Planet", which shifts the focus from renewable energy targets towards the power of individual and community action, to protect and restore environmental safeguards.

We at briers, are committed to supporting this through to which we do by monitoring CO2 and offsetting projects, such as our partnership with Kingsbury Water Park and our own Wildlife habitat and Fishery whereby we have planted thousands of trees. These projects use the power of the community to build areas of woodland and give the opportunity to restore and enjoy a positive, green environment for the future.

All our Sites are powered through EDF Zero Carbon for Business 100% to which is energy generated mostly from wind power. The improvement of LED lighting as well as larger roof lights in our SORT building enables a reduced use of electricity through the availability of natural day light and an improved environment to work in.

We also take our local community commitments seriously, aiming to engage all our customers and communities in ways to avoid any waste going to landfill by encouraging them to consider reduce, reuse and recycle. Our community engagement not only promotes school visits to sites to encourage environmental awareness to young children but also to our chosen community project, Tamworth Well Being and Cancer Support Centre.

Following completion of this year’s ISO Audit with ISOQAR, I’m very pleased to say, the auditor has passed us for our surveillance year with no non-compliances or opportunities for improvement.

He has advised he was very impressed with both sites, the level and standards of the evidence he has seen and the speed in which it has been produced and forwarded to him.

He said a very big congratulations to everyone, keep up the good work and see you next February!

I therefore wish to say a big thankyou and well done everyone for their hard work in achieving this.

This year, we light our Christmas tree in loving memory of a dear friend and colleague who recently passed away after a short illness.

Steve Sturch — or ‘Sturchy’ to his mates — was not only a valued driver but also the heart of so much laughter. His warmth and famous banter are already deeply missed by us all.

Our trucks have all been “Poppied” to show our support and to commemorate this year’s Remembrance Day on 11th November.

This is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth member states since the end of the First World War to honour armed forces members who have died in the line of duty, a tradition inaugurated by King George V in 1919.

We are proud to also support our customer the National Memorial Arboretum to help meet their Environmental Sustainability objectives by providing Zero Waste to Landfill Waste management services at their Alrewas, Staffordshire location.

Today we celebrate World Environment Day.

As we are aware Plastic pollution permeates every corner of our planet—even in our bodies in the form of microplastics. World Environment Day 2025 calls for collective action to tackle plastic pollution.

By drawing inspiration from nature and showcasing real-world solutions, the campaign will encourage individuals, organizations, industries, and governments to adopt sustainable practices that drive systemic change.

This year’s World Environment Day comes exactly two months before countries meet again to continue negotiating a global treaty to end plastic pollution.

Join the movement—because together we can create a healthier future.
