Where’s your favourite place to walk your dog in Swindon?

With the extreme temperatures of the Summer months behind us, and before the threat of frost, Autumn is one of the nicest times to get out and about with the dogs.

In Swindon we’re situated close to the Ridgeway and the Cotswolds – two really beautiful places to go out walking. But there’s also so many lovely places right on our doorstep. My personal favourite is the Old Town Gardens where you can experience all the seasons in their true glory – from the cherry blossom in the Spring to the glorious colours of Autumn!

Today’s the day we launch Drove 24/7!

From now on all emergencies and care outside of our regular opening hours will be seen by Drove team members at our Swindon hospital.

All you need to do is ring your usual branch number and you’ll be forwarded to the team automatically.

As a proudly independent practice, it’s important to us that you and your pets experience the same high level of trust, comfort and continuity – day or night.

Running our 24/7 service ourselves allows us to set a fair and transparent pricing structure while ensuring that you’re always met by a familiar and trusted member of our team when you need us most.

Over the next few weeks we’re going to be introducing our 24/7 team, so you can meet the kind and caring people who ensure you have our support whenever you need it.

Full-Time Animal Nursing Assistant

We’re on the lookout for a Full-Time Animal Nursing Assistant to join our fantastic team here at Drove Vets!

📅 Monday to Friday

🕒 Hours vary between 7:30am and 10pm

🐾 What will you be doing?

This is a hands-on, varied role where you'll be an essential part of the Drove team, supporting multiple departments to help deliver outstanding patient care.

Your day-to-day will include:
· Assisting Registered Veterinary Nurses, Vets, and our Client Care team with a range of clinical and admin tasks
· Caring for in-patients — feeding, grooming, walking, monitoring and offering comfort and attention
· Preparing and maintaining clinical areas to the highest hygiene standards
· Supporting in theatre with instrument prep, sterilisation and set-up
· Helping to keep our day running smoothly and our patients comfortable, safe and well cared for

You’ll be working closely with our amazing team of RVNs, vets, animal nursing assistants, receptionists and support staff — all passionate about animal welfare and great teamwork.

🌟 Who we’d love to hear from:
· Someone caring, reliable and enthusiastic with a strong team spirit
· Previous experience in a veterinary or animal care environment is a bonus — but not essential, as training will be provided
· Good communication skills and a proactive attitude
· Willing to work flexibly within the 7:30am – 10pm window

How’s this for an exciting update!

Earlier in the year we made the decision to bring our out-of-hours and emergency service back in house.

Now we can confirm that Drove 24/7 will be launching on 1st October... next week!

As a proudly independent practice, it’s important to us that you and your pets experience the same high level of trust, comfort and continuity – day or night.

Running our 24/7 service ourselves allows us to set a fair and transparent pricing structure while ensuring that you’re always met by a familiar and trusted member of our team when you need us most.

Things will run as usual this week, and from Wednesday we’ll post again to run you through how to contact our new service, as well as updating our website.

Spoiler alert – we’re going to make sure it's as easy as possible for you to access our team when you need us!

It's Guinea Pig Awareness Week 🐹 ❤️
Drove Nurses, Sarah and Maria, share their top tips for keeping your Guinea Pigs healthy and happy!

🐹 Guinea pigs are social little furries and like to be kept in pairs or small groups. However, you should ensure they have plenty of space, especially when housing boars. You should also provide multiple bed/hiding spaces, food and water options to avoid squabbles.

🐹Use good quality, fresh hay, as this makes up around 80% of a guinea pigs diet, alongside pellets, fresh vegetables, and plenty of fresh water.

🐹Get into the habit of weighing and recording the weight of your guinea pig regularly, this is often the first sign of illness and can help detect any health problems early.

September is Pet Insurance Awareness month and we're excited to be working in partnership with Pet Proactive to offer our customers simple, fairer pet insurance for dogs and cats.

🐾 Any treatment or referral we prescribe is covered up to your policy limit
🐾 Drove Vets will process your claims directly, so you don't need to worry about paying the balance to us if you're insured with Pet Proactive.
🐾 A clear and simple policy which confirms any pre-existing condition exclusions at the start
🐾 Premiums are reasonably priced and Pet Proactive will never increase your premium just because you've made a claim.
🐾 Unlike most policies where you may need to pay an excess per condition, per year, with Pet Proactive you are only asked to pay one excess of £100 a year irrespective of how many conditions you are claiming for, up to your annual claim limit.
