Peter James’ Roy Grace is Queen Camilla’s favourite fictional detective and now she plays a leading role in his latest thriller, The Hawk is Dead!

Combining Peter’s classic fast-paced action with extensive behind-the-scenes research at Buckingham Palace, The Hawk is Dead is the not-to-be-missed publishing event of the autumn and the perfect entry point into the world of Roy Grace for anyone yet to meet him.

Love That Endures: A Conversation on Baby Loss and Healing.

This Wasn’t Meant to Happen - Ali Harris in Conversation with Jennie Agg

A very special evening in Romiley of connection, conversation and community for a discussion on love, loss, and the role that writing and sharing stories play in surviving the darkest of times - and in finding hope on the other side.

This September, to celebrate the launch of her new novel This Wasn’t Meant to Happen, Ali will be joined by the award-winning journalist and author, Jennie Agg.

Talking about these themes with author friends whose work Ali deeply admires feels like the most joyful and meaningful way to mark this moment - a reminder that community holds us up, and that honest conversation has the power to heal, hold, connect and strengthen us.

Inspired by her own experience of baby loss, the novel tells the story of Sofie, a woman terrified of risk, whose world is upended when she experiences the stillbirth of her baby boy, Leo. As Sofie and her husband navigate the deep waters of grief, they are forced to re-evaluate everything they thought they knew about love, marriage, identity, and the fragility of life.

Yes, it’s a story about loss, but it’s also a story about what comes after. It’s about survival, friendship, family, and the quiet strength it takes to keep going. It’s about choosing hope, even in the darkest moments. In many ways, it’s the ultimate love story.

Readers have said it will “break your heart and put it back together again.” Many have told Ali that they’ve felt seen, held, comforted - even uplifted — by this book. It’s a novel that invites you to feel deeply, and to ask yourself, in the words of Mary Oliver:

What will you do with your one wild and precious life?

Whether you’ve known grief yourself or love someone who has, this event is for anyone who believes in the power of stories to heal, to connect us, and to remind us we’re not alone.

Tickets are £5.00 each or £9.99 including a copy of This Wasn’t Meant to Happen. Complimentary light refreshments are included in the ticket price.

Event starts at 6:30pm (doors at 6pm) at Serenity Romiley, 12 The Precinct SK6 4EA

About the book:

Find the clues. Play along. Solve the murder first.

‘A true master of British crime writing.’ RICHARD OSMAN
‘All the entertainment you’ll need this Christmas. Wonderful stuff.’ IAN MOORE

Six down-on-their-luck people with links to the world of crime writing have been invited to play a game this Christmas by the mysterious Midwinter Trust. The challenge seems simple but exciting:

Solve the murder of a fictional crime writer in a remote but wonderfully atmospheric village in north Yorkshire to win a prize that will change your fortunes for good.

Six members of staff from the shadowy Trust are there to make sure everyone plays fair. The contestants have been meticulously vetted but you can never be too careful. And with the village about to be cut off by a snow storm, everyone needs to be extra vigilant. Midwinter can play tricks on people’s minds…

The game is set – but playing fair isn’t on everyone’s Christmas list.

After all, when the prize is to die for, it’s so tempting to inject a little murder into the mystery.
