If you've been thinking about visiting Derrington Millennium Green, now is the perfect time. Our wildflower meadows are bursting with colour and alive with wildlife, providing one of the most spectacular displays we've seen in recent years.

As a designated Site of Special Biological Importance, the meadows play a vital role in supporting local biodiversity. This year's display includes a wonderful variety of wildflowers and grasses, with orchids, clover, vetch, Oxeye Daisy, buttercups and Sanguisorba all thriving across the Green.

The meadows are buzzing with insects, birds are feeding among the grasses, and every visit reveals something new. Whether you're a keen naturalist, photographer, or simply looking for a peaceful walk surrounded by nature, there's never been a better time to explore the Green.

Please help us protect these special habitats by keeping to the paths where possible and taking only photographs.

Special thanks to Steve Johnson who shot the drone footage used in this video.

📷 Have you visited the meadows recently? We'd love to see your photos in the comments!

Derrington Millennium Green – May Work Party Update

We were treated to warm and pleasant weather for this month’s work party, and despite a few early grey clouds on the horizon, we stayed dry all morning. A fantastic turnout of volunteers meant we were able to get a huge amount done across the site.

🌸 We continued planting up the new decorative rockery area near the bridge, which is really starting to come together now

🚗 Over in the car park extension, volunteers also removed the last two old parking space dividers and installed a new divider along with another bump stop.

🌱 Elsewhere, volunteers were busy with general tidying around the site and in the WI garden, helping to keep everything looking neat and welcoming as we head further into spring.

It was especially great to see our younger volunteers getting involved with the planting this morning, along with some new faces joining us for the first time. Seeing different generations working together is a big part of what makes these mornings so enjoyable.

☕ We meet on the second Sunday of each month, and everyone is welcome — whether you’re a regular, completely new, or just curious to see what we’re about.

📅 Our next volunteer work party will be on Sunday 14th June 2026, and we’d love to see you there. No experience needed — just a bit of enthusiasm and an appetite for tea, cake, and good company.

April Work Party Update:

We had a real mix of weather for this morning’s work party — mostly sunny and fine, with one very dramatic downpour thrown in for good measure! Luckily, it didn’t slow us down for long, and we still managed to get plenty done across the Green.

A big highlight was planting up the new decorative rockery area near the bridge. It’s fantastic to see this space really coming to life after all the hard work over the past few months. We also made more coping stones for the next stage of the project, keeping the momentum going.

Over in the car park extension, we installed two more parking space dividers, continuing to improve the layout and accessibility of the area.

We also moved the large bird table closer to the windows in the shed extension, meaning volunteers can enjoy a bit of birdwatching while spending time in the workshop

Elsewhere, volunteers were busy strimming and tidying along the access road to keep things neat and welcoming, while others got stuck into chopping wood to keep the fire going on those colder mornings.

A group of our younger voulenteers also worked to plant wildflower seedballs they had made in a few areas of the top meadow that need a little extra help this year.

All in all, another really productive and enjoyable session — with teamwork, fresh air, and a bit of everything the British weather could offer!

☕ We meet on the second Sunday of each month, and everyone is welcome — whether you’re a regular, completely new, or just curious to see what we’re about.

📅 Our next volunteer work party will be on Sunday 10th May 2026, and we’d love to see some new faces come along and join us. No experience needed — just bring a bit of enthusiasm (and maybe a waterproof just in case!) and enjoy some well-earned cake at the end!

🌼🐣 What a Fantastic Easter Egg Hunt! 🐣🌼

We had an amazing morning at our annual Easter Egg Hunt! The weather was bright and sunny, and our volunteers were thrilled to welcome a record number of people joining in the fun. It was wonderful to see so many happy faces—and plenty of chocolate being enjoyed at the end!

A huge thank you to everyone who pre‑registered. It really helped us make sure we had enough eggs for everyone. And of course, thank you to all who came along—we hope you had a brilliant time.

We’d also like to give a special thank you to A.J Busby Ltd and Sainsbury’s Stafford for kindly donating eggs for the event.

If you have any photos of yourselves enjoying the hunt, we’d love to see them! Please feel free to send them via Messenger or share them in the comments below.

🌷🐰 Happy Easter, everyone! 🌷🐰

March Work Party Update

We were treated to a cool but dry morning for our March work party — perfect conditions for getting outside and making some more great progress around the Green.

A lot of the morning was spent continuing work on the new decorative rockery area near the bridge. Volunteers laid some beautiful new coping stones along the edge of the stream, all hand made by Bob, which are already giving the area a lovely finished look. We also cleared and spread gravel across another large section, meaning the space is now ready for planting over the next few weeks.

In the car park extension, we installed another parking space divider using the stones that were prepared and painted during last month’s session — another small improvement that’s helping to keep the area organised and easy to use.

Mike also finished installing the windows in the new shed extension. It means volunteers can now enjoy watching the birds while having their coffee and biscuits.

It was a really productive morning, and as always we rounded things off by getting together for a good natter and some tasty treats over coffee.

We meet on the second Sunday of each month, and everyone is welcome — whether you’re a regular, completely new, or just curious to see what we’re about.

📅 Our next volunteer work party will be on Sunday 12th April 2026, and we’d love to see some new faces come along and join us. No experience needed — just warm clothes, a bit of enthusiasm, and an appetite for cake at the end!

February Work Party Update

After a week where it felt like the rain never stopped, we were very lucky to wake up to a bright and dry morning for our February work party. It was a real relief to get outside, enjoy some fresh air.

The main focus of the morning was clearing earth and shaping a new rockery area near the bridge, ready for planting. This included moving some seriously heavy (and very decorative!) stones — a great team effort that’s already starting to transform the space.

Work also continued on preparing and varnishing the wooden doors for the new shed extension, bringing us another step closer to finishing this long-awaited project. Volunteers were also busy painting and preparing stones to better define parking spaces, helping to improve both access and safety in the area.

All in all, it was a really productive morning.

We meet on the second Sunday of each month, and everyone is welcome — whether you’re a regular, completely new, or just curious to see what we’re about.

Our next volunteer work party will be on Sunday 8th March 2026, and we’d love to see some new faces come along and join us. No experience needed — just work clothes, enthusiasm, and an appetite for cake at the end!
