Dogs are not born aggressive nor does a breed type indicate a propensity towards aggression.

The issues come from us as humans and the way we interact with our dogs & the type of energy we give out. Early indicators sometimes include excitement issues coupled with a lack of direction & inconsistent leadership. We then start to see reactions to fear and obsessive behaviours.

When dog behaviourists are working with an aggression issue our starting point is actually the human. We track back to see what the human & dog interactions have been and how this may have developed into subtle behaviour changes over time.

90% of my behaviour training work is helping support the human, their knowledge of dog physiological, changing their ownership energy, their daily structure and their leadership relationship with their dog.

Training the dog is the easy bit, the humans are just as individual & it’s why we specialise in one to one behaviour training.

🐾 Welcome to Paws4fun UK, Rupert! 🐶

We’re thrilled to welcome Rupert to Paws4fun today for his initial dog daycare assessment. As an excitable and lovable Labrador, we know how important a structured welcome is to a newcomer. The pack loves to welcome a new dog to join in all the fun, energy, joy, love and wagging tails at daycare.

As always Charlie has been the first to welcome Rupert and is helping him settle. It’s always an exciting time and what a beautiful boy Rupert is🐕🎾💛

After our busiest summer ever, today we continue our ‘highlighting our pack’ series with the incredible Nala. Nala is both a beautiful soul and a boundless bundle of joy and energy in one amazing dog. She is pure beauty inside and out.

Nala is definitely a girl who likes to live for the moment with her random burst of excitement, mammoth zoomies, and an endless need to please and engage with every human.

Nala just loves being close to you, whether your walking, relaxing or watching the TV she is right there by your side just waiting for the first bit of eye contact which might just indicate time for play and fun. One of her most heartwarming traits is that she loves bringing all of her favourite toys to you one by one so that she can get you to play tug or fetch with her. She taps into her natural retriever instincts which Nala has in abundance. She is also one of our pack that we are able to have a deeper emotional connection with as she loves to follow human leadership & direction which we know is so important to our pack.

Nala is remarkably in touch with human behaviour and knows exactly when to bring a smile to your face, including timing the right moment to jump into a muddy puddle. She is everyone’s best friend as her kindness & friendliness shines through everyday. Her owners have done a fantastic job in developing an amazingly balanced, fun loving, & friendly dog that is always well behaved and wanting to do her very best for you.

Nala’s favourite walk has to be our days out at Dovedale and Ilam hall where she can find lots of sticks to retrieve, enjoy long walks and be in amongst huge fields, hills and open land. We absolutely love having Nala in our Paws4fun pack & she is a pleasure and a privilege to look after.

In Sweden it’s illegal to leave your dog home alone for more than six hours. The law is part of the countries strict animal welfare regulations which recognises that dogs are social & sentient beings that need regular human interaction & care. Even as a small business we recognise the need to invest heavily in our people & to take our continued professional development (CPD) seriously.

We make the strong link between our people and our future success as a growing business. This year we are submitting ourselves to the investors in people accreditation and awards programme.

Our work so far highlights that our dog behaviourists are qualified to Masters Degree level and hold numerous IMDT and BCCS qualifications. This matched with the experience of working with and training hundreds of dogs and breeds each year helps us deliver the very best of results for our customers.

We have had an amazingly busy start to the year and this weekend is no exception with our behaviour training being fully booked.

Behaviour problems often occur when we as humans are not fulfilling our dog’s needs. So here are three quick tips to make sure you do.

Excercise
Is for the dogs body, make sure you give your dog appropriate physical and structured exercise. Remember the limits on how much you exercise pups in their development stages and older dogs in their later years.

Discipline
For the mind, give your dog rules, boundaries and limitations. These should challenge the dogs mind so the dogs has to think about what it needs to do. How does it fit into rules, what are its boundaries, are what are its limits. Your leadership is crucial here!

Affection
For the heart, making sure you are giving your dog affection when it’s calm or when it’s doing something you have asked it to do. Affection is a really powerful reward tool & we can use it to nurture our dog’s mindset. Make sure your dog’s body and mind are in the correct place before giving affection.

Dog behaviour training is not just about solving a problem, it’s also about improving your relationship with your dog and better understanding its needs.
