Three sessions later, Pumba trusted us enough to let us complete a full groom. It’s not perfect, but comfort and confidence matter more than perfection.

This has been such a rewarding journey to be part of, watching him grow with each visit. Progress like this doesn’t happen alone. I couldn’t have done it without the dedication and teamwork of his owner, who has put in so much work at home alongside the work we’ve done in the salon.

Together, we’ve helped Pumba start to learn that grooming doesn’t have to be something to fear, and that’s a bigger achievement than any perfect haircut.

Being left somewhere new can be stressful for an older boy with dementia, like Ted, so we kept his groom nice and quick, and made sure he had plenty of little breaks to sniff around the garden (because every Cocker Spaniel loves a good sniff 🐾🌿)

This was Daisy’s very first groom, and she was incredibly nervous from the start. The grooming table, the sounds, even me — everything felt scary and overwhelming for her. I wanted to showcase the ups and downs of working with a nervous dog, which is why this video is a little longer than usual… this actually took around 30 minutes with her 💛

Instead of rushing through it, we slowed everything down and focused on building trust and confidence first. Teaching her that it was okay to jump onto the table by herself was such a huge step.

There were moments of progress, moments of hesitation, and a few steps backwards too — but that’s all part of the process with nervous dogs. By the end, Daisy was so much more willing to try, and to trust me. I was so proud of her.

Sometimes grooming isn’t about perfection or speed. It’s about patience, trust, and helping a dog feel safe and learn how to navigate these situations.
