Grass seeds can be a menace! They are pointy seeds that are attached to long grass. They are found in meadows and places with long grass.

It is important to inspect your pet straight after they have been in long grass to avoid the grass seed from causing a problem. Grass seeds have sharp ends and can get stuck in your pets fur and pierce their skin. If you think your pet may have a grass seed imbedded, contact your veterinarian. ๐ŸŒฟ

Our furry friends can become too hot in the heat, without adequate cooling. Below are some steps of what you can do to help reduce your dogs temperature. Always ensure you call your vet immediately for advice!

- Move the dog to a shaded and cool area
- Immediately pour cool (not cold to avoid shock) water over the dog. Tap water (15-16ยฐC) has been found to be the most effective at cooling dogs with heat-related illnesses.
- Wet towels placed over the dog can worsen the condition, trapping heat.
-Allow the dog to drink small amounts of cool water
-Continue to pour cool water over the dog until their breathing starts to settle, but not too much that they start shivering

It's BBQ season! ๐Ÿ”๐ŸŒญTo make sure your pets stay safe, take a look at some of our top tips;

- Keep the flame in a safe place by making sure the BBQ is secure. Keep it on a flat area where itโ€™s less likely to fall over. ๐Ÿ”ฅ

-BBQs take hours to cool down. If youโ€™re letting them into the garden, make sure theyโ€™re supervised at all times ๐ŸŒก

-Make sure that your pet has access to clean drinking water. We recommend placing their bowl in a shaded area โ€“ far away from the BBQ and the foods/accessories that come with it. ๐Ÿ’ง

-Greasy, under/overcooked meats can upset your dogโ€™s stomach or even cause pancreatitis. Corn on the cob can cause a blockage in their digestive system. ๐Ÿ—๐Ÿฅฉ

What to do if your dog has ingested sea water?

If your dog has been drinking sea water, they may experience vomiting or diarrhoea. It's always a good idea to bring a large bottle of water with you. You should offer them fresh water every 30 minutes or so. This will help to rehydrate them and replenish bodly fluids. Most dogs recover after drinking sea water, however you will need to keep an eye on them to ensure no changes occur. If you are concerned or anything changes, speak to your vet.

Some signs to look out for are;

Dehydration
Excessive thirst
Confusion
Lethargy
Muscle spasms
Vomiting
Diarrhoea
