Whereas a lot of people are looking at the current weather forecast super happily, any decent dog owner or professional is doing the opposite.

Heatstroke is no joke and shouldn’t be taken lightly. If you can’t walk your dog earlier or later in the day, it won’t hurt them to miss a walk. Play some enrichment games instead, a lot of them can mentally tire your dog out far more than a simple walk ever will.

For your dogs sake, be responsible. This really isn’t something you want to learn the hard way.

🚨HEATSTROKE KILLS DOGS🚨

It doesn’t always have to be ‘hot’ for an animal to develop heatstroke. Exercising excessively in warm weather, or being left in a warm or humid environment that is poorly ventilated can cause animals to quickly overheat. Extra attention should be given to large dogs, flat faced breeds, puppies, overweight dogs, older dogs, black coated dogs and dogs with emotional behaviour difficulties as studies have shown they can be affected by the heat more than others. Avoidance is always best, but it’s important to know the signs of heatstroke so that you can treat your dog appropriately and know when to seek veterinary attention should they be unfortunate enough to suffer from it.

If you are concerned that your pet is overheating, you should act immediately, as heatstroke can rapidly become a life-threatening emergency; We recommend to “cool first, transport second” as the immediate first aid response for dogs with heatstroke. Owners should also seek veterinary advice as soon as possible.

I highly recommend Karina to anyone who is in need of a behaviourist. She is a lovely lady and is amazing with dogs - both in understanding them and in giving you great ethical methods to help with anything you may be struggling with.

Her classes are also incredible, with something available for all ages as well as follow on drop ins for class graduates for further training in real life settings. I’m pretty sure I learn something new every time I’m with Karina! In such an unregulated industry I don’t recommend anyone lightly, but rest assured your dog would be in the best of hands with Heart To Hand Dog Training 🫶🏼🐾

This is Bodhi, a two-year-old XL Bully who I had the pleasure to work with on Sunday.

Bodhi’s mum contacted me as she needed some help with his excitement around other dogs, lead walking, as well as a few other things.

We started off by chatting about Bodhi, his routine, and his puppyhood, as it’s really important for me to get to know each dog properly before putting any training or behaviour modification plans into place.

We then headed out for a walk where we worked on Bodhi’s loose lead walking, helping him to walk nicely and calmly next to his mum while still enjoying a good sniffy walk too. We also worked on calmness around other dogs and improving Bodhi’s focus, giving both him and his mum the tools to pass dogs calmly and confidently whilst out walking.

The session went really well. Bodhi responded brilliantly to the training, and I’m really looking forward to seeing his progress 💙

I'm excited to announce that Pawsome Walks now has it's very own website 😁

A huge thank you to a super talented lady for bringing it all together (technology definitely isn't my forte, I'll stick to the animals). I now have an amazing site for you to learn more about the services I offer and get in touch.

This is just the first of many exciting changes coming to Pawsome Walks, so keep an eye out for my next announcement coming very soon.

!! Awareness Post !!

Whilst I'm sure it's done with the best of intentions, please don't leave out your dogs hair for the birds after brushing them if you treat them for fleas and ticks. Unless using natural products the substances in a lot of the treatments are actually very harmful to birds and other animals.

A small change can make a big difference in protecting our wildlife 🌿

Did you know that keeping your dog lean can add upto 2 years to their life span?

Considering how short our dogs lives are this is no small amount of time. You are the one in control of your dogs food intake, please put them on a diet if they are overweight it reduces their chances of gaining so many different health issues.

This is Bodhi and sometimes his mum gets worried he is underweight, I think he is perfect. We are just so used to seeing overweight dogs everywhere that people think this is the norm. It can be hard to keep a consistent weight for your dog, their daily exercise can vary and some dogs can be picky with eating and don't eat the same amount each day. Try not to stress about their weight fluctuating slightly from time to time, especially if you're one of my clients you know I'm not shy and will tell you if I believe your dog is over or underweight.
