constantly with reactive dogs is people assuming that rolling on the floor is the dog being silly, dominant or just being rude

it’s often a displacement behaviour linked to emotional conflict and nervous system regulation it’s super natural and allows the dog regulate.

When a dog becomes overwhelmed conflicted or overstimulated the brain will sometimes push them into behaviours that help release tension or redirect emotional arousal. Rolling, sniffing, scratching, sudden zoomies, grabbing grass, or obsessively rubbing their face, body are all included. From myself of the fence It’s a decent indicator of where the dog is at and allows me to adjust training if necessary

Reactive dogs arnt always reacting because they want to fight, all t of the time they are struggling to process pressure, anticipation, frustration, fear or over-arousal . I like to work to the 80-20 protocol, if the dog smashes it 80% of the time then we plough on with advancements
