PAWS The charity will be expanding its operation on a foster-basis only and currently all but 2 of the animals in our care are in foster homes.

UPDATE February 2025
Following a recent announcement by the Board of Trustees, the charity has restructured to reduce operating costs and a decision was made late Dec 2024 to sell the premises at Delph, Oldham following a spend of nearly £15,000 in planning costs. Two planning applications were submitted to Oldham Council and subsequently failed so the board felt they could not further invest fun

ds in unsuccessful applications. We hope that by significantly reducing our overheads we can help more cats and dogs in the communities that we serve. We will continue to fundraise by means of events throughout the year and this will help cover the ongoing costs of veterinary care, food, fuel, vehicle maintenance, etc. We will be serving various communities across the Delph, Oldham, Rochdale, Todmorden, Halifax, Calder Valley and Burnley areas. PAWS has been a registered charity since 2014, and was originally founded in 2007. We rescue cats and dogs who are in need of a second chance of a forever home. If you don’t physically exhaust them… they just won’t stop.
Whoa there.
Let’s look at the bigger picture.... not just a quick “fix” for today.

I get it, I really do.
Running them longer..... throwing the frisbee for another 10 minutes, chucking that ball again and again, because if you don’t, they’ll pace, whine and struggle to settle.

Here’s the tough question.
Is it helping your dog… or just creating a cycle where they crave more and more?

Their stamina climbs higher.
Their demands increase.
Their adrenaline is off the charts.

Then "suddenly" the amount of exercise you need to give them is unsustainable .
There just aren’t enough hours in the day to “satisfy” them.

What's the solution?
Do less… but carefully.
Reduce that high energy exercise, while adding enrichment in its place.

Low arousal activities that tire them in a different way:

Scatter feeding
Scent walks
Enrichment games
Puzzle toys

Still not convinced?
Try it.... really try it , for a few weeks.

You’ll never look at “tiring them out” the same way again.

Here are the three poorly kittens that were left outside Valentines Vets in Rochdale. The news isn't all good but could be worse we think. The grey male has such damage to his little eye due to the Cat Flu, that it is beyond repair and it will need to be removed. It has been blurred out of the image as it is horrible. The darker male has also damage in one eye but the vets are monitoring and we are hoping with treatment and care, it might be saved. The female is tiny! Her eyes although a bit messy, seem to be ok thankfully. She really is so small and she will need building up. Despite been tiny, she is a feisty little lady and she can be very vocal when she wants to be heard! They are British Shorthair cats. They are currently still at the vets getting the treatment they need. Soon they will go to our cat foster team and the job of care and re-hab will begin. We need names for them so we would like some name suggestions please. We will keep updating and if you would like to donate towards their care please go to the link to our Gofundme page.

🐾 Meet Dotty the French Bulldog 🐰✨️

This lovely girl came in to see our Vet Kirsty for a health check and to restart her vaccinations.

Dotty is part of the Pennine Animal Welfare Society (PAWS) family, who do an amazing job rescuing and rehoming animals in need 🖤

These poorly kittens were left outside Valentines Vets with a note saying
'Sorry Cant afford treatment
Hope you can help them'
The poor things are so small and they have cat flu so they need extra vet care, milk, food, and a lot of rest and TLC. We will do everything we can to help them as always, but we need to ask you all for help with Vet costs. Can you help us to get them the treatment they need. Also we will be needing an experienced cat foster home for them for a time after 4th September. Please go to our Gofundme link to donate and help us nurse these babies back to health.

Waffle

Here we have Waffle, a Cockapoo and just over a year old.

He is a young lad and needs someone to put in some time training and socialising with him.

He would be best in a quiet home with no children. If there are grandchildren, older ones or teens may be ok. He is house trained. Waffle needs a slow introduction to the outside world as he is a bit unsure of things sometimes, and not a great fan of busy or crowded places at the moment. He is hoping for a new family with a human who can work with him on this. He does like to give cuddles when he feels like he is ready. Waffle will be Vaccinated, Microchipped, Flea/Worm and Tick treated and neutered.

Please can we ask for your help?
Our Frank needs a new bed and we need a very sturdy one, as he is a menace for chewing, even beds! Is this a thing? do your dogs chew their beds too? Well we have found one that looks the part and we would love to get one for Frank as he really needs a soft supportive bed to help him rest comfortably. Being a large dog with a limb missing at the front, is challenging and tiring for him. We want to provide him with something that does the job. Like all good things, it is not cheap at £248 but we think he is worth it ❤️
Have a look at this bed

We would be most grateful for any donation, large or small.

It's not about those full on reactions one after the other...they're easy to spot.
It’s not even about today’s trigger....it’s yesterday’s too.
Trigger stacking isn't as simple as "avoiding" the next stressor either.
It’s about recognising when your dog is already carrying a build up of stress from earlier events....sometimes from hours or even days before.

If we don't recognise trigger stacking, understand it and see the need for recovery between even small "events"....well, that's when everything can stall.

When you spot it.... you can step in sooner and give them the downtime they need to reset.

That’s how you stop reactions before they happen and make real progress.
